May 19, 2021

Friends,

As we navigate through 2021 we find ourselves faced with the one year anniversary of many significant events. Among these significant events are the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, the death of George Floyd, and the devastating Wildfire season. To honor where we are now, through the lens of last year – please join me and a very special guest for a Your District, Your Voice Virtual Listening Session next week. I will be joined by Gregg Simpson, a local activist who focuses on unity in the community and offers a tremendous perspective on last years racial justice events here in Salem.

My colleagues and I from across the state and up and down the I-5 corridor are hearing from business owners unable to fill positions initially left vacant from the shutdown and are now once again thriving and need employees. One such employer called my office the other and shared: “I cannot find people who want to work. I pay a competitive rate of $53,000 per year, and I am unable to find people willing to come off of unemployment and return to the workforce.” Please reach out to my office directly at the provided email address if you have information to share on this topic.

In the interim if we can be of help to you as you navigate your state government please call or email. My door is always open and my staff, Pam McClain, Lena Prine, and I welcome your participation.  As your state representative, I am here to listen, respond, and lead. Please stay safe and take care of one another.

All my best, rmg
