Friends and Neighbors,

I hope that you and your loved ones are doing well, staying healthy, and looking out for your neighbors and friends in these difficult times.

Orfegon's COVID metrics continue to improve.  Moreover, reported cases in the Portland Tri-County area constitute only 34 of today’s 202 new cases.  COVID hospitalizations continue to decline, as does the number of deaths reported today.

Friday was another big day for vaccinations in Oregon, with just under 34,000 vaccinations being administered.  Our administration rate hit 85% for the first time, despite increased doses coming into the state.  Oregon’s rate is ten percentage points above the national average.

That’s not to say that the vaccination pipeline isn’t still frustratingly narrow for many people in the Portland area.  We should see improvements during the coming week.  OHA hopes to have 15,000 appointment calls go out on Monday for the Convention Center vaccination site.

Please stay safe, and let me know if you have any questions about information in today’s newsletter.

  • Additional Quick Updates:
    • The Governor was finally vaccinated today. She chose the new single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.  In so doing, she was seeking to undercut a perception that the J&J vaccine was inferior. You can read more about it here.  In fact, this vaccine is just as successful as the other vaccines at preventing severe cases of the virus and death. (So far, no one who has received any COVID vaccine has subsequently been hospitalized for the disease or died of it.)
