Dear friends,

I'm very happy to report that on Monday,
the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved Lane County's request for a direct housing mission following the Holiday Farm Fire. This housing assistance will allow FEMA to provide a range of temporary housing options including transportable temporary housing units, direct lease, and multi-family lease and repair. Housing assistance for qualified individuals and households may be available for up to 18 months from the date of the disaster declaration (through March 15, 2022).

Local elected officials, including Commissioner Heather Buch, pressed FEMA to approve Lane County's application. After FEMA initially denied Lane County's request in November, Congressman DeFazio led a congressional delegation effort to appeal the decision. A big thank you to everyone who helped get the original decision reviewed and changed!

As more information becomes available, including how to apply for FEMA housing assistance, I will share it with you via e-bulletin and my Facebook page. I will also continue to press for Douglas County to receive similar federal assistance.

Also: This Friday, January 29, the City Club of Eugene will host an online forum, "
After the Holiday Farm Fire: What Does It Mean to Rebuild?" Commissioner Buch, along with Tim Laue (McKenzie Community Development Corporation) and Jeannine Parisi (Eugene Water & Electric Board) will discuss recovery and rebuilding efforts. You can sign up to participate and submit questions at the City Club's website. Tune in to the program at noon on Friday via the City Club's Facebook and YouTube pages, or listen to the replay on KLCC Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
