I hope that you and your loved ones are doing well, staying healthy, and looking out for your neighbors and friends in these difficult times.
Today’s COVID report shows that cases continue to be high but stable, hospitalizations are lower, and so is our state’s positivity rate. Unfortunately, our death rate has again risen, this time to 41, and nearly all of those reported deaths occurred within the last week or two.
Our vaccination rates continue to rise at impressive rates. With 56.5% of our available doses now in people’s arms, Oregon is now among the most successful of all the states at using its available doses. You’ll find details in tonight’s report.
Now, if we can just get the feds to send us more vaccines (for real) . . .

TODAY’S CORONAVIRUS AND CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE UPDATE

New COVID Cases: OHA reports 1,173 new COVID cases today. This count is a combination of positive test results and those who are presumed positive (see definition below). The cumulative number of cases in Oregon since the beginning of the pandemic is 132,412.

Positive Test Results: OHA reports 1,105 positive test results today. (Individuals may have had multiple tests come back positive, and each is now counted separately.) The cumulative total of positive test results since the beginning of the pandemic is now 176,111 .

Total Tests: OHA reported an additional 23,023 tests today. Our cumulative total of reported tests is now 2,942,589.

Positivity Rate: Today’s test positivity ratio for Oregon is 7.3%. The national ratio today is 10.7%.

Deaths: I’m sorry to report 41 additional COVID deaths today. You can read about the Oregonians that we’ve lost further down in the newsletter. The total number of COVID deaths in Oregon is now 1,799.

Hospitalized: OHA does not fully report on new hospitalizations over the weekend. They did report that the number of people hospitalized with COVID has continued to go down. There are now 365 hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 across Oregon, which is 22 fewer than yesterday. There are 92 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, which is five fewer than yesterday. The total number of new hospitalizations since the beginning of the pandemic is 7,198.
- New Immunizations Reported Today: 16,117
- 11,332 administered yesterday
- 4,785 administered previously and report received yesterday
- Total First and Second Doses Administered So Far: 189,190
- Total Oregonians vaccinated so far: 168,487.
- 17,703 now fully vaccinated with two doses
- To date, 335,075 doses of vaccine have been delivered to sites across Oregon.
- 56.5% of these doses have been administered so far (national average is 43.9%). Oregon is currently tied with Connecticut and Kentucky for the 6th highest administration rate.

Other Hospital Information: OHA does not provide detailed hospitalization information over the weekend, so the following numbers are the same as Friday’s. I’ll update them on Monday.
- Patients Currently with COVID-19 Symptoms (who may or may not have received a positive test result yet): 418 (26 fewer than yesterday). Of those, 387 (28 fewer than yesterday) have already received a positive test back.
- Available ICU Beds: 152 (5 more than yesterday)
- Other Available Beds: 614 (23 fewer than yesterday).
- ICU Patients Confirmed w COVID-19: 97 (4 fewer than yesterday).
- Confirmed COVID-19 Patients Currently on Ventilators: 56 (1 fewer than yesterday).
- Available Ventilators: 774 (6 fewer than yesterday)

- The Oregonian reports that two more adults in custody have died at an Eastern Oregon prison.
- Today’s New York Times reports on a recent study examining the best ways to keep the chances of COVID transmission low while riding in a car. It includes comments from PSU’s Dr. Richard Corsi, an expert on ventilation and air quality.
- The Oregon Health Authority has scheduled another Facebook Live event next Wednesday at 11:30. It will feature OHA Public Health Division Director Rachael Banks and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dana Hargunani to answer your questions about vaccinations. The Facebook Live is available in Spanish and English
