Thanksgiving Eve

Representative Raquel Moore-Green

November 25, 2020

Friends –

It is Thanksgiving Eve and I hope that you, your family, and friends are preparing for a uniquely different celebration. For our family, the core of the gathering is remembering to be grateful. Regardless of where we find our strength, our hope, our faith to meet the daily challenges it should naturally be undergirded with gratefulness. The fundamental “thank you” for what you have. We can spend our lifetime looking at what others have and miss all the gifts and blessings of our own life. As the second of four children in a busy family dynamic my mother often reminded me to “count your blessings.”

In the course of counting our blessings we need to hold onto one of the fundamentals of this country – liberty. Liberty to choose where we live, what we do for a living, who we choose as friends and the list goes on. Let us gather this Thanksgiving and give thanks for the people and things in our life that give us meaning and purpose.

This afternoon the Governor announced the latest strategy for addressing the COVID19 pandemic. What we do know is our county will now be assigned a “level” denoted by a color. These levels are: Extreme Risk, High Risk, Medium Risk, and Low Risk. Please see the following links for details:

Not long after the initial shutdown this spring the concerns over mental health and domestic violence started to take center stage as the sudden isolation and fear of a new disease sank in. Earlier this week I spent time with a constituent who had reached out needing assistance with navigating one of the state agencies. In the course of the conversation it became apparent to me that the layered stress of the potential of being ill, working from home, assisting in the teaching of two children, and the wildfires had truly stretched her limits.

Neatly summarized as “COVID Fatigue” I know there many others also experiencing this stress, strain, frustration, and fatigue. Early this spring I encouraged all of us to be kind to one another, to reach out to the neighbor or friend that you have not seen for a while, to listen to someone who is struggling. And if you sense that a friend or neighbor could use extra help please take the time to connect them with the Oregon Alliance to Prevent Suicide at 877.968.8491 or txt to 741741 or another mental health resource.

Thank you taking time to read and please know that I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as you state representative.

In the interim if we can be of help to you as you navigate your state government please call or email. My door is always open and my staff, Pam McClain, Lena Prine, and I welcome your participation.  As your state representative, I am here to listen, respond, and lead. Please stay safe and take care of one another.

Wishing you and your families a very peaceful Thanksgiving,

Yours truly,

sig
