Wildfire and COVID19 Updates

Representative Raquel Moore-Green

September 29, 2020

Friends -

A short 20 days ago I wrote asking you to please be aware of the conditions and responses for the potential growth of the Beachie Creek Wildfire. Today as we breath cleaner air in the mid-valley the fire is at 57% contained. There are still hot spots being managed, containment and control lines being put in place by our steadfast fire fighting community. A sincere thanks to them for their fortitude and dedication to the protection of life, structure, and our forest lands.

Many of our Canyon neighbors have begun the hard task of returning home to deal with the damage and in some cases the full devastation of a lifetime of investment, hard work, and love of land. For those of you able to assist in the helping our neighbors regain their lives please consider visiting the Santiam Canyon Wildfire Relief Fund.

This past Friday, the 25th of September the E-Board met and allocated $10 million to the Wildfire Damage Housing Relief Fund. The purpose of this fund is to fill gaps for costs not covered by insurance and FEMA. We urge all of those who have lost their homes to please first work with your insurance agent and FEMA to obtain all benefits and support. In some cases, this can be stressful and beyond what we can manage. But please do not give up, pursue those benefits and payouts before you apply for funding from the Wildfire Damage Housing Relief Fund.

The Wildfire Damage Housing Relief Fund should be the last place you seek assistance. If you receive funding from them before your insurance or FEMA has paid out you run the risk of not receiving those monies. This fund is to help fill the gaps of costs not covered by insurance or FEMA.

Zoom briefings and email updates continue to be part of my daily routine. Below you will find some of the key information pertaining to the wildfires and to COVID. Most importantly there are links that you can save and use to obtain daily updates, at your convenience.

Our office is glad to report that hundreds of individuals who have reached out for assistance with their unemployment benefits due to COVID have been successfully resolved. We are still working on a few of the more complicated applications, and we so appreciate the patience and endurance of these individuals and families.

In the interim if we can be of help to you as you navigate your state government please call or email. My door is always open and my staff, Pam McClain, Lena Prine, and I welcome your participation. As your state representative, I am here to listen, respond, and lead. Please be safe.

All my best,

sig
