Dear friends,

As you're likely aware, communities in Senate District 4 are being ravaged by fires brought on by extreme weather conditions. Those communities are in the McKenzie River corridor area and around Glide in Douglas County. Tragically, dozens of homes in Blue River are reported to have been lost.

My office is in contact with the Governor's office, Oregon Office of Emergency Management, state Fire Marshal and the Department of Forestry with the goal of sharing information and resources. I am monitoring the situation and hope to visit affected communities as soon as possible to help facilitate state aid. Here are some of the latest key updates:

McKenzie Fire

  • Residents affected by the McKenzie Fire can call Lane County's non-emergency call center at 541-682-3977 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. After-hours calls will be transferred to the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line.

  • The temporary evacuation point for the McKenzie Fire has been moved to Thurston High School (333 58th St, Springfield, OR 97478) for those who were able to evacuate to the west. Those who evacuated east are encouraged to head toward the Deschutes County Fairgrounds in Redmond (3800 SE Airport Way).
  • The Lane County Sheriff's Office is posting regular updates on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/LaneCountySheriffsOffice.

Douglas County / French Creek Fire

  • All of Douglas County is under Level One ("Be Ready") order.

  • The Red Cross has a temporary evacuation point at the old Glide Middle School off of Glide Loop Road.

  • The Douglas County Sheriff's Office may conduct a "reverse 9-1-1" to quickly notify residents of critical information. You can sign up at: www.dcso.com/alerts/default.asp. They are posting regular updated on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/DouglasCoSO

Please stay safe and follow guidance from emergency services. Be prepared even if you aren't in the path of a fire already burning. This could include preparing a "go bag" of essentials in case of evacuation, as well as checking on neighbors. For the latest updates on highway closures, visit www.tripcheck.com. As always, feel free to share your comments, questions or concerns with me by phone, mail or e-mail.
