Coronavirus Update: Multnomah County Reopens Tomorrow

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Tomorrow, Multnomah County will enter Phase 1 Reopening, becoming the last county in the state to do so. This means that restaurants, bars, personal service providers, shopping centers, gyms, and fitness centers will be able to reopen if they are following public health guidelines set by the Oregon Health Authority. Gathering sizes can increase to 25 people with physical distancing requirements.

I’ve covered Phase 1 Reopening in past newsletters, but here are the links on those guidelines and the frequently asked questions by sector as reminders:

As we’ve been discussing this week, coronavirus cases continue to go up across the state, and Multnomah County saw another 33 cases today. While masks won't be required in public indoor spaces in Multnomah County (along with six other counties) until Wednesday, June 24, they are still strongly recommended because wearing face coverings reduce transmission of the virus and indicate to your fellow Oregonians that you’re doing your part to stop the spread.

Face Covering Requirement 6-18-2020

In addition to wearing a mask in public, the following public health steps are still recommended:

  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • If you become symptomatic (cough, fever, shortness of breath) while in public, please return home and self-isolate immediately. Contact your health care provider if you need medical attention.
  • Practice good hand hygiene with frequent handwashing for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer (60-95% alcohol content).
  • Cover coughs/sneezes with elbow or tissue. If you use a tissue, immediately discard the tissue in the garbage and wash your hands.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Practice physical distancing of at least 6 feet between you and people who you do not live with.

So, please exercise caution and remember that future outbreaks could result in the county returning to baseline level. We have to do what we can to protect one another and avoid the need to go back to Stay Home, Save Lives in order to protect vulnerable Oregonians and frontline health care workers. This would be very difficult for our collective public health and our economic recovery.

ALERT: Finish Your OHP Application by July 2, or Wait Until July 6

If you’ve started an online application for health insurance under the Oregon Health Plan, you'll need to complete your application by July 2, or wait until July 6 to start a new one.

The Oregon Health Authority is updating its computer system, and all incomplete applications will be deleted after 4 p.m. on July 2. You can still turn in a paper application if you prefer.
