Riley Report: June 2020 Edition

Senator Chuck Riley

June 2020

The national uprising in response to the murder of George Floyd, not to mention the killings of too many of our fellow black citizens is a critically important call to action for all of us. There have been too many black lives lost needlessly by overpowering police actions. I agree with many of you that we need reform, and we need it now.

I stand ready to do my part to vote for legislation to improve police accountability, to end racist violence, and for legislation that addresses the systems of oppression. I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues in Salem for legislation that reflects the principle that all are created equal and that all not only deserve to be but should be treated with equality, dignity, and respect at all times. We must put a stop to the senseless police brutality that has gripped this nation and this world.

- Chuck

Reopening Washington County

Presently, Washington County is in Phase I of reopening, and in order to keep within these parameters, health and safety guidelines must be met and maintained. This will involve not only those who operate the businesses visited but also with the participation of the customers who come through their doors.

Specifics of some of the guidelines in place can be found using the following links: Restaurants and Bars, Personal Care Services, Gyms & Fitness Centers.

More valuable information can be found on the Washington County Covid-19 webpages.

On Friday June 12, Governor Brown held a press conference to announce a 1-week pause on reopening applications. You can watch it here.

Oregon DMV

As of June 1, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is accepting appointments for essential services including: getting a driver license or an ID card; taking a driver knowledge test; applying for a disabled parking placard; completing a VIN inspection; or adding a farm endorsement. Also included under essential services is reinstatement of a driving privilege if it is combined with a license issuance. While not all services will be available by appointment, many services remain available by mail or online at DMV2U.

DMV is taking appointments for 40 of their locations around the state. This is an important step in getting Oregonians the services they need while keeping customers and DMV employees safe.

Please keep in mind that DMV is experiencing an exceptionally high volume of calls as customers seek to schedule appointments. DMV appreciates your patience and understanding. To learn more, go to the DMV COVID-19 Update webpage.
