I hope that you and your loved ones are doing well, staying healthy, and looking out for your neighbors and friends.
This newsletter includes the list of both House and Senate upcoming committee meetings this week and next. In addition, as is the case every Sunday, I’ve included graphs showing the age breakdown of those affected by the virus (positive tests, hospitalizations, and deaths).
Tomorrow, Monday, is of course our day to celebrate Memorial Day, and I hope that you find a meaningful way to do that. This year, of course, will be very different—no parades, no large commemorations. But that doesn’t mean that the day will go by unnoticed. The Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs has put up a website showing the different ways that people around the state and the nation are recognizing this holiday, our veterans, and all who have made sacrifices for the greater good. You’ll see that ODVA itself is hosting a virtual celebration on their Facebook page at 10 am (but you can participate any time after that).
TODAY’S CORONAVIRUS AND CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE UPDATE

Positive Cases: OHA has reported that 43 additional Oregonians tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, putting the total at 3,842.

Total Tests: The total number of tests in Oregon now stands at 112,110. That’s an increase of 1,992 tests.

Ratio: The percentage of positive results for today is 2.2%. Today’s national percentage is 5.8%. See below for a graph showing Oregon’s daily percentage changes over the last 14 days.

Deaths: I’m sorry to report 1 additional death due to the coronavirus. The total number of deaths in Oregon is now at 148.

Hospitalized: The number of Oregonians who have been hospitalized with symptoms, and who have also tested positive for the disease, increased by 2, and is now at 742.

Presumptive Cases: OHA is now including “presumptive COVID-19 cases” in its daily reports, consistent with recently amended guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A presumptive case is someone who does not yet have a positive PCR test result but is showing symptoms and has had close contact with a confirmed case. If they later test positive by PCR, those will be recategorized as confirmed cases. Today the number of new presumptive cases is 3, and the total of presumptive cases is now at 85.

Other Hospital Information:
- Patients Currently w COVID-19 Symptoms (who may or may not have received a positive test result yet): 117 (15 more than yesterday). Of those, 52 have already received a positive test back.
- Available ICU Beds: 206 (26 more than yesterday).
- Other Available Beds: 1,721 (2 more than yesterday).
- ICU Patients w COVID-19 Symptoms (who may or may not have received a positive test result yet): 35 (6 fewer than yesterday).
- COVID-19 Patients Currently on Ventilators:18 (3 more than yesterday).
- Available Ventilators: 786 (3 more than yesterday).

- Total Tests: 14,163,694 (up 378,908 from yesterday).
- Positive Tests: 1,613,894 1,635,76 (up 21,866 from yesterday).
- Deaths: 91,261 91,941 (up 680 from yesterday).

Coming Up: Legislative Committee Hearings
The remaining House committees will be meeting for the rest of this week. Then, the Senate committees will convene during the first week of June.
Most of the hearings will be COVID-focused, but most will also include briefings, updates, and reports on a number of other issues, and in many cases will include topics likely to be the subject of legislation next session.
We now have the Senate agendas posted, along with the House. (My own committees are Senate Environment and Natural Resources, Judiciary, and Rules.) I’m listing them all below in order of appearance.
