Session Deadlines Quickly Approaching

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I am proud to be here in the Capitol working for you, and I am extremely disappointed that my Republican colleagues continue to ignore their constitutional duty and are instead taking a taxpayer-funded vacation.

This is the fifth time in less than a year that Republicans in the Legislature have walked off the job. They’ve walked out over school funding. They’ve walked out over legislation to address climate change. They’ve walked out because they didn’t want to work late. What comes next? The future of Oregon’s democratic process is at stake here, and we need to make clear to these legislators and corporate special interests that we will not budge. This is not a game. This is about people’s lives and livelihoods. For the sake of this institution and for the people of the State of Oregon, we have to say, enough is enough.

Happy to meet with students, constituents and advocates

I am still hard at work in Salem, and I love meeting with constituents from Northeast Portland on the issues they care about.

 Protecting Immigrant Communities

Last week there was a troubling report that a father dropped his kids off to catch the school bus and was apprehended by ICE.  Oregon's House Democrats stand strong in our commitment to our values of equity and inclusion. We are proud of Oregon’s status as a sanctuary state, and it is something that we have fought to protect through legislation and at the ballot box over the years. We need to ensure local resources are protected and not diverted for an inhumane political agenda.

To report ICE activity within local communities, call 1-(844) 363-1423 to reach the National Immigration Project, or find more information from the non-profits below:

                                     Health Reminders & Helpful Information

The Oregon Health Authority is closely monitoring an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus, called COVID-19. We have seen a growing tide of xenophobia, anti-immigrant sentiment and racism in reaction to the virus, and it’s important to stay focused on the factual public health information that will really make a difference. Here are some important reminders; for more up-to-date information, please visit OHA's website.
