Dear Friends,

With the days getting shorter and the weather turning wintry, it is time to take stock of the year behind us and think about the year ahead of us.

I invite you to join me for a December 14 Town Hall at the Beaverton Library. There will be holiday cookies and coffee to share.

After many years of hard work, the Student Success Act became law on October 1. Schools all over Oregon are busy planning the implementation of the new law. I know there are lots of questions about how the Student Success Act will be rolled out into classrooms, so I’ve asked the Beaverton School District to join us for this Town Hall to discuss what we can expect.

I am also preparing for the next legislative session, which will begin in February. This is limited to 35 days and is a chance to make small policy tweaks and budget rebalances—and it also an opportunity to pass necessary climate change legislation. We have to pass the carbon bill that was lost in the 2019 session when Republicans left the state and denied the Senate a quorum to convene.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this and the Student Success Act. I hope you can make it – otherwise I’ll have to eat all those Gingerbread cookies myself.
