I'm still working hard for you in House District 30!

Friends & Neighbors

I hope that you have enjoyed your Spring thus far. I have stayed very busy throughout the last 60 days and I’m getting ready to go down to Salem next week for the Special Session. The last couple of months, I’ve enjoyed taking tours in-district, attending task force meetings, volunteering and meeting with constituents regarding future legislation.

Parade
At the March for Our Lives parade in Downtown Portland. Joined by colleagues, Majority Leader Jennifer Williamson and State Representative Barbara Smith Warner.

Since the blackout, I’ve held four listening sessions, including a small business roundtable with business owners from House District 30. It makes me so happy to see such an engaged district with new faces at each event. One of my recent listening sessions was at a senior center. There are times when my listening sessions are not the most convenient for public transportation that many seniors rely on, so I try to go where seniors live so that I can ensure that their voices are being heard. These community meetings hold some of my favorite memories as a legislator and I am always looking for new locations to host them so please let me know if you have any ideas.

Listening Session
We had some great listening sessions over the past two months! One in North Plains at Hits the Spot Cafe. Another at La Finquita Del Buho, a local CSA Farm in Helvetia.

After the short session, I was appointed to the Chief Education Office’s task force on Safe and Effective Schools for All Students. This task force was formed to study ways that we can improve our school system so that it works for ALL students and supports educators in our schools. We’ve just completed the meetings and we had a lot of great conversations and I am hopeful about the policy potential we are bringing forward. It was such a privilege to work alongside 44 experienced professionals from across Oregon. I learned so much from them and I look forward to the opportunity to advocate for change that will create a better learning and working environment in our schools.

Pomeroy
I was able to tour the Pomeroy Place Apartments in Aloha. This is an affordable housing complex for low-income veterans. It is amazing how just 20 homes can make such a difference in a community and help the people who served our country get back on their feet.

Governor Brown has called a special session that is set to begin on May 21st. Find out more info here:

Stride for Seniors
At the Stride for Seniors Event at Portland International Raceway. It was great to see the Hillsboro Hops supporting the event, and so many more people doing their part!
