Legislative Days Start Next Week

Alan DeBoer

Hello Friends,

The Legislature will convene again during the week of January 9. We will have committee and task force meetings for the purpose of organizing prior to the session that is scheduled to begin on February 5.

My committee assignments have been changed since the last round of legislative days that took place in November. I am now serving on the Senate Health Care Committee, as well as the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Human Services. This is in addition to my membership of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on General Government, the full Ways and Means Committee and the Joint Information Management and Technology Committee. However, I will no longer be serving on the Senate General Government and Accountability Committee.

I’m excited to be joining the Health Care Committee and the Health Care Subcommittee. When I took office early last year, there was a severe mental health crisis in Jackson County. I spent many hours working with representatives of the Oregon Health Authority, as well as local officials, in trying to find solutions to those problems. It is my hope that I will be able to work more closely on those issues by working on those committees.

Another important upcoming date is January 8. That is the deadline for Legislative Counsel to return bill drafts to Senators and Representatives for the February session. Each Representative will have two priority bills and each Senator will have one. We will then have just over a week to review our bill drafts before submitting them for consideration for the session. The deadline to do that is January 16.

The Legislative website, www.oregonlegislature.gov, includes a wealth of information about the process, individual bills and committees. Agendas and materials for the committee meetings will be available there before the start of organizational days. You will also be able to watch committee meetings live as they happen, or watched archived footage of meetings that have already taken place.

Yours truly,

Sen. Alan DeBoer
