Dear Friends,
Now that the season has turned to fall, I am turning my
attention to the 2018 Legislative session.
As a “short” session that is limited to 35 days by law, the 2018 session is
a time to make mostly small policy changes and budget rebalances. For example, as Chair of
the Senate Revenue Committee, we have some technical tweaks to make
on tax laws. I will also introduce legislation that will help Oregon high
school students get college credit for the “dual credit” courses they complete. For
some reason, students are still having problems transferring some of these
credits to some universities.
One thing I hope we don’t have to deal with in the 2018
session is congressional action to repeal the Affordable Care Act. This would
be a disaster for Oregon and the hundreds of thousands of people who are
enrolled under the Oregon Health Plan.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this and other issues
facing our state. My biggest wins in the legislature are always those that
originate from constituents at home.
Please join me for a cup of coffee and a sweet roll at the Ava Roasteria Conference Center in downtown Beaverton.
