Dear Friends & Neighbors,
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well!
With summer in the rear-view mirror, many of us are planning for fall and
winter. The same is true in the Legislature. In addition to attending events
around Senate District 21,
I’m looking ahead to our short session in February and reflecting on the good things we’ve
already done in 2015.
I was honored by my colleagues to be elected Oregon Senate President Pro Tempore. In addition, there is a staff transition in our district office. I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming town hall on October 21st.
As always, please feel free to contact me or my Legislative Aide Nolan Pleše with your concerns. We can be reached at 503-986-1721 (Capitol), 503-231-9970 (District), or by emailing sen.dianerosenbaum@state.or.us.
All the best,

Senator Diane Rosenbaum
Senate President Pro Tempore
District 21
Working Parents, Families and Communities Legislative Town Hall
On Wednesday, October 21st, from 6:30-8:30 pm at SEIU Local 49
(3536 SE 26th Ave), Representative Rob Nosse and I are hosting a working parents, families and communities town hall. We will be joined by Mayor Hales, Commissioner Novick as well as expert
panelists from Family Forward, the Main Street Alliance, and many other local advocates.
We will discuss the important issues facing working families and the steps the Legislature can take, and I hope to see you there!
Goodbye Calli and Welcome Nolan
Senator Rosenbaum says farewell to Calli McDermott and welcomes Nolan Pleše as her new Legislative Assistant.
It is always hard to say goodbye but especially hard when
this someone is as intelligent, hardworking, and talented as Calli McDermott.
Calli has been with me since December 2014 and has exceeded every expectation. She served the people of District 21 well and I wish her the best on her future endeavors in the state of Washington.
While I can never replace Calli, I'm excited to introduce my new Legislative Assistant Nolan Pleše. Nolan is a graduate of Portland State University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Political Science and is a long time constituent of Senate District 21. Nolan has done work with organizations such as the Western States Center that works to connect community organizations to challenge and transform individuals, organizations and systems to achieve racial, gender and economic justice.I am excited to have Nolan on board, and know he will fit right
into our progressive, politically involved district!
With a Heavy Heart
Senator Rosenbaum, along with the Oregon Delegation leading a moment of silence from the SIX Conference in Washington DC.
Like all Oregonians, I was shocked and griefstricken to hear of
the tragic shooting at Umpqua Community College on Thursday, October 1st.
Words cannot truly express the pain and sadness that I felt upon hearing about
this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all those
involved and the entire Roseburg community.
As many of you know, we worked hard this last legislative
session to close the remaining loophole in our state's gun background check system
with the passage of SB 941.
We are proud of the work that we accomplished, but I know that there is clearly
more work to do. I appreciate hearing from so many constituents in response to this tragedy and I remain committed to working on legislation to prevent gun violence.
Serving in a New Role
Senator Rosenbaum being sworn in as the Senate President Pro Tempore by Oregon Supreme Court Justice Thomas A. Balmer.
It is a great honor to have been chosen by my colleagues to serve as Senate President Pro
Tempore during September Legislative days at the Capitol. I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve in a new leadership
role and continue as chair of the Senate Rules Committee.
Visiting Our Nation's Capitol

Last week I was honored to meet with President Barack Obama and
other state legislators at the White House. President Obama singled out Oregon
for our hard work on paid sick leave.
“Congress hasn’t answered my
call to provide our workers with paid sick days and paid family leave, but four
states have now taken action on their own, including Oregon this year…So
congratulations, Oregon. We’re proud of you.”- President Obama
Our work would not have been
possible without the commitment of thousands of Oregon workers, advocates, and small businesses who
showed up to testify, write letters and express their support. I was proud to help lead the fight to pass this landmark law.
2015 Labor Day Picnic
Senator Rosenbaum and NW Oregon Labor Council, AFL-CIO Executive Secretary Treasurer Bob Tackett
This past Labor Day I was very excited to attend the Labor Day
picnic at Oaks Park right here in District 21. It was a privilege to meet with
several thousand union families and celebrate the passage of the paid sick days
and retirement security policies. I am proud
to stand with working families across Oregon to ensure a better future for all Oregonians.

to vote it’s always a good time to sign up or update your voter
