If you receive a call threatening to arrest you, if you don't pay for missing jury duty - hang up; it's a scam! As of late, several people have gotten this call from someone claiming to be from Hillsboro Police.

REMEMBER 

• Only scammers require gift cards, wire transfers, payment apps, or crytocurrency.
• Police and the courts will never demand payment over the phone. 
• And the courts will never ask for your Social Security Number or birthdate by phone.

In the summer of 1998, a woman was sexually assaulted by a stranger in downtown Hillsboro. The investigation eventually went cold.

That changed when the suspect was forensically linked to DNA recovered during the victim's Sexual Assault Forensic Examination. On June 5, 2026, nearly 28 years later, Jerry Arthur was located in Washington State and arrested for Rape in the First Degree. He has since been extradited to Oregon and is in custody at the Washington County Jail.

We encourage anyone with information about Jerry Arthur, including other victims, to come forward. Please contact Hillsboro Police Detective Townsend at 503-681-6175 and reference case 1998-5960.

The sentence follows the defendant’s convictions by jury for Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Menacing constituting Domestic Violence, Assault in the Fourth Degree constituting Domestic Violence, Tampering with a Witness (two counts), and Extortion.

The defendant assaulted his girlfriend on multiple occasions spanning several days in December of 2024, including threatening the victim with a machete during one of the assaults.

It's not too early to start learning them, as the school year is fast approaching.

Between 7 am - 5 pm on School Days

• Between those hours on a day school is in session. If you are unsure whether or not it is a school day, slow down to 20 mph.

When Children are Present

• Any day, at any time children are present.

Children are Present means:

• Children waiting at a crosswalk.
• Children are occupying or walking within a crosswalk.
• Crossing guard is present to assist children at a crosswalk.

• 1 - 10 mph over is $115
• 11 - 20 mph over is $165
• 21 - 30 mph over is $265
• 30+ mph over is $440
