As All Systems are "Go" for His Retirement
K-9 Rocket launched his Patrol career in 2018 with his handler, Officer Scott Brennan.
Over the years, Rocket had 114 suspect captures, and numerous article finds - human scent on weapons, clothing, and other objects that are critical to investigations - as well as assists to other law enforcement agencies. During his career, he also located vulnerable individuals in immediate need.
“Rocket has shown me what it truly means to have a K-9 partner - fearless, devoted, and always ready to protect me when I needed him most,” says Officer Brennan.
Though he excelled at his work, Rocket certainly loved being out in the community. He's probably most beloved for being HPD's googly-eyed goggle-wearing K-9. He and Officer Brennan attended hundreds of outreach events, interacting with kids and adults alike.
A fan-favorite at the Hops baseball games, Rocket will be honored at the June 13 home game, and a few days later internally at Hillsboro Police.
Rocket was named from the movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, a favorite of Officer Brennan's and his family. He will continue to make his home with Officer Brennan in retirement.
Good boy, Rocket!

Set Your Child Up for Success & Safety This Summer
If your child will be home alone for a few or several hours a day this summer, be sure they are ready - responsibility and possessing good decision-making skills for their age are important considerations. Set clear expectations and make a safety plan.
Kids should:
- Keep doors & windows locked.
-
Not answer the door, unless they can verify it's a trusted individual who you've pre-approved to be in your home.
-
Have access to a phone & know how to get help...from you, a trusted neighbor and/or 911. It's important for kids to know their full name, address, and phone number.
-
Limit food to "ready to eat or microwavable items" - unless it's an older child.
-
Have a fire escape plan & understand the basics of fire prevention.
Other considerations:
-
Discuss screen time, online safety & be sure parental controls are in place.
-
Talk about fun/safe activities your child can do to help pass the time.
-
Look around your home for potential dangers and address them. Be sure items, like firearms, are SECURE.
If your child is new to staying home alone,
- Practice "what if" scenarios with them.
-
Start slow with short times away - while you go to the store or run an errand.
- Check in periodically.
The Bike Lane is NOT a Travel or Right Turn Lane
It happens a lot. A driver pulls up to a red light with a vehicle(s) in front of them. That driver wants to make a right turn and they don’t want to wait for the light to turn green to take their turn. So they move to the right, creating a secondary lane by use of the bike lane to bypass the other vehicles. Not only is it illegal, but it presents a clear danger to bicyclists using that lane.
A citation for this violation will cost you $265
Drivers may only cross the bike lane during the actual turn; not in preparation for the turn. And, of course, drivers need to check their mirrors and over their right shoulder to yield to bicyclists in the bike lane.
Other exceptions to drivers being in the bike lane include moving over for emergency vehicles or if a vehicle becomes disabled.
