Attempting to Steal Your Information & Money
With global attention focused on the conflict in Iran, it’s no surprise scammers have already added that situation to their story lines. Some recent reports to the Federal Trade Commission about imposter, romance, and fake charity scams include an Iran twist. The details change, but the scammer’s goal is always to trick you into paying or sharing your personal information.
Neighborhood Meeting Set for April 8
Washington County's Department of Housing Services is engaging the community ahead of opening a new safe rest pod village at 3390 SW 209th Avenue in Aloha later this spring. The location will provide 60 pallet shelters with meals, restrooms, and showers, as well as housing support and case management services. The pod village, which will help meet urgent & essential shelter needs, will be operated by Open Door HousingWorks with 24/7 staffing.
While the City of Hillsboro is not collaborating on this project, it may be of interest to Hillsboro neighbors and business owners due to its proximity. A neighborhood meeting will be held on April 8 at Tamarack Elementary School.
194 Fatalities from Distracted Driving Crashes in Oregon, 2017-21
It's National Distracted Driving Awareness Month - So, what's distracting you?
Oregon law prohibits holding any electronic device that is not permanently installed in your vehicle, including when you're stopped at a traffic light or stop sign and when stopped in traffic congestion. It also applies when you are in a business parking lot, unless you are in a designated parking space.
A distracted driving ticket in Oregon starts at $265 under ORS 811.507, with penalties increasing substantially for repeat offenders. A third offense in 10 years is a misdemeanor (crime).
But even if you're using cell phones and other electronic devices hands-free (legally), your actions (eating, shaving, putting on make-up, etc.) while driving can still place you and others at risk. And it can cost you a $165 citation under ORS 815.270.
So, for the safety of all, please keep your hands on the steering wheel and your mind on your driving.
