Reducing Barriers & Improving Efficiency
Over the last twelve months, the Hillsboro Police Department's Office of Professional Standards has taken steps to increase accessibility and reduce potential barriers for candidates, as well as improve workflows and technology to expedite background investigations. The goal is to hire the most qualified applicants who share the Department's commitment to its mission and core values, and who have a passion for public service.

First Lesson of the School Year - 20 is Plenty
School speed zone signs tell you when you must obey the reduced speed limit of 20 mph.
WHEN FLASHING - Any time a yellow light on a school speed sign is flashing.
SCHOOL DAYS 7 am - 5 pm - Between those hours on a day school is in session. If you are unsure whether or not it is a school day, slow down to 20 mph.
WHEN CHILDREN ARE PRESENT - Any day, at any time children are present.
Children are Present means:
- Children waiting at a crosswalk.
- Children are occupying or walking within a crosswalk.
- A crossing guard is present to assist children at a crosswalk.
Fines for speeding:
- 1 - 10 mph over is $115
- 11 - 20 mph over is $165
- 21 - 30 mph over is $265
- 30+ mph over is $440
If speeding in a school zone, the fines are DOUBLE what is listed above.
