Hillsboro Police Honor Guard Travels to Washington DC
Members of the Hillsboro Police Department Honor Guard traveled to our nation's capital to participate in National Police Week events, including the National Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony on the Capitol Lawn.
During their time there, they paid tribute to HPD Officer Gerald Erickson, who died in the line of duty on February 28, 1980, and the more than 23,000 officers who gave their lives in the United States since 1790.
This year, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial added 282 names; 137 died in 2023, and the remainder were historical deaths recently discovered. Marion County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jared Miller and Nyssa Police Department Cpl. Joseph Johnson are among those names added this year.

Can You Turn Left on a Steady Solid Red Light?
It depends. You can make the left turn against a solid red light when:
- you are turning from a one-way street (from the lane nearest the left curb) to another one-way street; or
- you are turning from a two-way street (from the lane nearest to the direction of the turn) to a one-way street.
As always, you MUST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP PRIOR TO THE TURN and YIELD to those with the right-of-way (green light/walk sign) - vehicles, bikes and pedestrians.
You may NOT make the left turn against a red light from a one-way street to a two-way street.
