![Flu Shot poster](https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/fancy_images/ORHILLSBORO/2023/08/8093274/4925554/flu-shot-poster_crop.jpg) Flu Vaccine Clinics: What to Know
- Flu vaccination clinics run by Get a Flu Shot (GAFS) are available by appointment only. They are not available by walk-in.
- Family members and City volunteers are welcome to sign up for the clinic as well. They will need to register during their own time slot.
Vaccine Cost:
-
See a list of GAFS-accepted insurance carriers to be billed directly.
-
Cigna-covered employees and their covered dependent family members will still need to provide their Cigna coverage information, and GAFS will bill the City to cover the cost of the flu shot.
- City employees who are not covered by Cigna or GAFS-acceptable insurance will be covered by the City.
-
Non-covered family members, and any non-City employees (i.e., volunteers), if participating in these clinics, will be responsible for the $35 flu vaccination fee.
For Children:
- GAFS will provide flu vaccinations for children ages 9+ with parental consent form.
-
KAISER MEMBERS: Kaiser will not approve vaccine coverage to children under 18 years old at these clinics (children under 18 need to go to an on-site Kaiser facility).
What to Bring to Your Appointment:

Active Shooter Strategy: Run, Hide, Fight
An active shooter is an individual engaged in attempting to kill people in a confined space or populated area. Active shooters typically have no pattern to their selection of victims.
Run, Hide, Fight has been the preferred strategy for active shooter situations, endorsed by the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, FEMA, and schools and universities across the country.
-
Run: Seek safety. Getting away from the attacker is the top priority.
-
Hide: Cover and hide if you can’t evacuate. Find a place to hide from the attacker and barricade between yourself and the threat if possible.
-
Fight: Fight only as a last resort. When you can’t run or cover, attempt to disrupt the attack, or disable the attacker.

COVID-19 Update
As of last week, another subvariant — Omicron EG.5 — has taken over as the country’s predominant strain, accounting for 17.3% of COVID-19 cases nationally, though it is not predominant in Oregon at this time.
This variant is one of many evolutions of previous Omicron strains and is not expected to behave differently than other circulating variants. CDC forecasts do not predict a significant increase in COVID-19-related hospitalizations in Oregon in the short term.
Dr. Dean Sidelinger, OHA state health officer and state epidemiologist, says vaccinations and well-fitting masks will continue to protect us. The City continues to direct employees to follow these safety & hygiene protocols:
-
Stay at home when you’re ill and symptomatic: Employees experiencing cold and flu-like symptoms (which are also COVID-19 related), should not report to work until symptoms are improved and/or gone completely.
-
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
-
Avoid touching your face.
-
Cover your mouth for coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your upper sleeve. Throw the used tissue away immediately.
-
Clean surfaces: Keep frequently touched common surfaces, counters, copiers, telephones, computers, etc., clean. Wipe them down with a disinfectant.
-
Be healthy: Eat a healthy diet and get plenty of rest and movement.
