New funding through Oregon’s Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) will bring additional resources to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) serving rural and remote communities across the state.
Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is providing approximately $7.3 million to support the state’s rural Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). About $500,000 of this funding will enable the Oregon Primary Care Association to provide grant management and technical assistance to participating FQHCs. The remaining funds have been offered to 34 eligible FQHCs located in rural areas to advance efforts that respond to local health needs as well as build more sustainable systems of care. Funding is contingent on OHA approval of each organization’s project plan and budget, which must follow federal and state RHTP requirements.
“Federally Qualified Health Centers provide essential medical, dental, and behavioral health services, ensuring Oregon's rural and frontier communities have accessible, high-quality care. Direct Rural Health Transformation Program funding will allow these safety-net clinics to expand access, strengthen critical services, and build the infrastructure needed to deliver whole-person care to those who need it most. When we invest in Federally Qualified Health Centers, we invest in the health and stability of the communities they serve,” said Joan Watson-Patko, executive director of the Oregon Primary Care Association (OPCA).
RHTP investments are intended to strengthen the services, infrastructure, and partnerships that people in rural Oregon rely on. Funding may support workforce development, technology upgrades, preventive health programs, and other allowable activities that contribute to a more stable and accessible rural healthcare system.
These investments will help health centers improve care coordination, expand access to high-quality services, and better meet the needs of the communities they serve.
OPCA is currently supporting eligible and interested FQHCs in developing project plans and budgets for their RHTP awards and will provide ongoing grant management and administration. Funding amounts and budgets are being finalized, and more information will be shared as details become available.
