Modernization Program Update

July 2019

This communication is part of our ongoing commitment to keep you informed of the progress of our agency’s Modernization Program. The goal of our Modernization Program is to replace the aging computer systems that support receipt of unemployment insurance taxes, payment of unemployment insurance benefits, and delivery of employment services. Further, this effort will transform business processes to take advantage of opportunities and benefits available through new system capabilities and better meet the needs of our customers - Oregonians and Oregon businesses. (Please open in Chrome or Firefox if you're having trouble seeing this message.)

JUST ONE BLOCK OVER AND TWO BLOCKS DOWN...

We've moved! In preparation for team growth over the next several months, and an increasing need for more meeting spaces, the program team moved into the Employment Department's space on the fourth floor of the Department of Revenue building in Salem. The space has room for the team as we expand, and five meeting spaces!

Come by to say hello!

If you're in or near Salem, we'd love to have you visit! Keep an eye out for our "MODist cookie socials." On Fridays (we're aiming for once a month), we'll have afternoon cookies and coffee. Our first social is August 2, and in honor of Graham's retirement, we'll be taking our best stab at "Graham's Famous Chocolate Cookies." Drop by our office space on the fourth floor of the Department of Revenue building anytime between 1-4pm, get some fun goodies (think Lego blocks, grocery bags, etc.), and tour the space.

Keep in mind:

  • You do not need to register with building security. Be sure your Employment Department badge is
    visible.
  • The elevators are to the left of the lobby. Take the elevator to the fourth floor.
  • Follow Employment Department Modernization Program signs to our space!

We're hiring

We're currently working on a recruitment for the UI Project Technical Manager (click here if you're interested in learning more!). We'll also be hiring a project manager who will lead the changes we will need to make to our existing systems. Later this year, we'll begin the recruitments for project team business and technical analysts. Many of these positions will be competitively filled, so if you are looking for a challenge and a chance to help create the future, keep an eye out; more information is coming soon!

PROJECT PROGRESS

UI Modernization Project

  • We’re finalizing the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Solution Request for Proposal (RFP). Last steps include a final review by our independent quality management services vendor.

    • The RFP is scheduled to be released mid-August. This is a process similar to opening a job posting. The vendors will have 60 days to submit their "application," or proposals telling us they're interested in working the UI Modernization Project.

    • We'll begin the process of evaluating those proposals in October and continue into early 2020. Learn more about how we're working to get the best solution here.
