Congratulations on getting started! Our statewide goal is to increase FAFSA/ORSAA completion rates by 5% compared to last year, when 59% of the class of 2019 submitted a financial aid application. We're aiming for at least 64% of the class of 2020 to do the same. And, you're off to a great start!

Both the FAFSA and ORSAA opened October 1st, and we've already seen some great activity happening in schools. We're giving a shout out to Sprague High School for their clever use of Smarties candies to entice students to complete their financial aid applications!

Financial Aid Parent
How does a student know if they're independent or dependent for financial aid purposes? Which parent's information, if any, do they need to provide on the FAFSA or ORSAA? This handout guides them in figuring out the answers.
Choose the Correct Application: FAFSA or ORSAA
It's important for the student to start the correct application, whether it's the FAFSA or ORSAA. This will depend on the STUDENT's situation and status. Families can use this quick quiz (in English and Spanish!) to determine which application to complete.
Tip: Use a Permanent Email Address
Remind students that they should always use an email address that will stay with them, even after high school graduation. Parents may also need to use a permanent email address that is different from their student's email.
