Rolling closures will slow freeway traffic Monday
Motorcade will escort slain Army Spc. John Pelham to Willamette National Cemetery
Local freeways will see rolling closures the afternoon of Monday Feb. 24 as police and emergency service providers escort the remains of Army Spc. John Pelham to Willamette National Cemetery.
Pelham, a 2010 Sunset High School graduate was killed Feb. 12 in Afghanistan. He was 22.
The motorcade will leave the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4195 S.W. 99th Ave., in Beaverton around 12:30 p.m. Monday.
Travelers should expect brief freeway closures as the motorcade passes on its way to Willamette National Cemetery. At least 70 vehicles are expected to take part, including a patriot guard of motorcycle riders, fire vehicles and law enforcement vehicles.
The route will take the motorcade:
- West of Southwest Beaverton Hillsdale Highway to OR 217
- South on OR 217 to Interstate 5
- South on I-5 to Interstate 205
- North on I-205 to Johnson Creek Boulevard (exit 16) to Willamette National Cemetary in Southeast Portland
