New Amtrak Cascades schedule accompanies Oregon's new trains beginning Jan. 6

SALEM — Oregon’s new Talgo Series 8 trains are officially joining revenue service on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 as part of the Amtrak Cascades corridor. The Oregon Department of Transportation has been working with its partners to finalize a variety of agreements and now, passenger rail fans can take their first rides along the route, which runs from Eugene to Vancouver, B.C.

 

 

A new bus and train schedule for the Amtrak Cascades corridor (pdf) goes into effect with the addition of the trains. You can also see just the changes that affect the Oregon portion of the corridor (pdf). Schedules and fare information are available at www.amtrakcascades.com. Oregon’s two new trains join the current fleet of five trains; three of those are owned by the Washington Department of Transportation and two are owned by Amtrak.

 

Features of the schedule going into effect include replacing several bus routes with trains, adding new stops on bus routes and adding new bus service. For example, Portland riders heading south will have an early morning train option for the first time, and Eugene riders heading north will have a late afternoon train option for the first time. A new bus stop is now available at Wilsonville.

 

 ODOT Rail staff shares the enthusiasm riders have for the new trains and plans to publish what routes the two new trains will be on as far ahead of time as possible. They will post the notice on the Rail website.
