Culvert repair scheduled for Newport’s South Beach area
NEWPORT—ODOT will repair a failed culvert beneath the south end of the US 101: Yaquina Bay Bridge, Thursday and Friday, September 26 & 27.
The construction will not affect travel on US 101, but the repair should ease local flooding during rain events.
The culvert served as an outlet to a drainage system. Because it had collapsed, it prevented the drainage system from functioning properly.
During two days of construction, ODOT crews will remove the culvert and jetty rock, and construct an open drain. The area will then be relined with jetty rock.
The construction activity beneath the bridge will be conducted between 8:30 and 4:30 on Thursday and Friday.
