OR 226 Chip seal project

SCIO— A chip seal project on OR 226 (Albany-Lyons Hwy.) is planned approximately nine miles east of Scio, between mileposts 19 and 23.

Construction crews with ODOT and Benton County will work 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 and between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, August 23.

A striping crew will return to stripe the highway during daytime hours on Monday, August 26.

During construction, motorists can expect a single lane of travel to be controlled by a pilot car. Motorists should plan on 10-20 minute delays.

A traditional chip seal consists of oil emulsion sprayed on the road then gravel is added on top of the oil and rolled to form a high traction surface. Chip seals can be an excellent, cost effective alternative to paving the road which is typically up to five times more expensive.

Motorists are encouraged to be patient, reduce speed near the construction areas, and monitor www.tripcheck.com for the latest road conditions.
