ODOT Trucking Advisory: new height pole requirement goes into effect
Oregon Department of Transportation sent this bulletin at 04/11/2011 04:51 PM PDTDo you transport loads higher than 14 feet 6 inches? Beginning April 15, 2011, motor carriers transporting loads measuring over 14 feet 06 inches in overall height will be required to have a front pilot vehicle that is equipped with a height pole while traveling on state and interstate highways.
Exception to new requirement
An exception to the new height pole requirement is available for motor carriers with an established ODOT Motor Carrier Transportation Division account. Established account holders may choose to sign and file a declaration form exempting them from this requirement. By submitting a declaration form, the carrier agrees they assume all liability for any and all injury and damage that may result from the over-height movement under a permit, whether or not the movement occurs over routes suggested by the MCTD, and that the carrier is solely responsible for determining adequate clearances. Carriers interested in filing a declaration are encouraged to do so prior to April 15 to avoid delays when ordering permits. Declaration forms are available on the MCTD website. These forms may be completed and faxed to the Over-Dimension Permit Unit at (503) 378-2873.
