In this email:
This spring and summer, crews will complete final paving on all lanes of OR 217 within the project area including ramps and several overpasses. We are planning regular nighttime lane closures and up to five weekend closures of all lanes in one direction of the highway at a time in order to complete this work safely and efficiently.
Paving is highly dependent on weather and equipment availability, which means details may change suddenly. Please check the project website and your inbox regularly for the most up-to-date information.
The paving limits are southbound OR 217 from Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway to OR 99W and northbound from OR 99W to Scholls Ferry Road, along with most ramps and overpasses in the project area.
Weekend directional closures:
- Up to five weekend closures of one direction of OR 217 at a time. The first two directional closures are tentatively scheduled for the weekends of May 30–June 2 and June 6–9.
- Weekend directional closure times are Friday night from 9 p.m. to Monday morning at 5 a.m.
Night work and lane closures:
- In addition to weekend work, expect nighttime lane closures for paving on the highway throughout May and June.
- Crews will also pave sections of several overpasses at night during May.
Temporary road conditions:
- Crews may grind down the old pavement before laying new asphalt. Expect rougher road surfaces in those areas until final paving is complete.
Some paving activities may extend further into the summer. Look for updates and more specific schedule information as we get closer to the weekend work.
Final paving gets us one step closer to opening the new auxiliary lanes. The overall project remains on schedule to be completed by the end of the year.
Expect several weekend closures of one direction of OR 217 at a time for paving this spring and summer.
Work is progressing well on the Hall Boulevard overpass in Tigard. A big milestone is coming up the night of May 13, when crews will pour about 425 cubic yards of concrete to form the new bridge deck, or surface. The pour will begin around 8 p.m. and continue through the night into the next day, with several concrete trucks moving in and out of the work zone each hour. Neighbors should expect a busy and noisy night, but the good news is we only anticipate one night of this work. This work is weather dependent and subject to change.
Once the concrete cures over the following couple of weeks, crews will begin work on sidewalks, curbs, railings, painting and other final touches. The overpass is still on track to reopen in August.
The OR 217 Auxiliary Lanes Project will construct auxiliary lanes in both directions of OR 217 between Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and OR 99W. Auxiliary lanes are ramp-to-ramp connections on the highway that help reduce congestion by giving drivers more space and time to merge safely. This decreases conflicts, improves safety and the flow of traffic, and ultimately allows the existing lanes to work more efficiently. We expect up to 73,000 hours of travel time saved each year with these improvements.
We aren't just making improvements to the highway itself. We also need to make the area surrounding OR 217 safer for all users. In partnership with the City of Beaverton and Washington County, we are making targeted improvements to local bicycle and pedestrian routes.
