The purpose of this workshop is to provide you with the knowledge to administer construction contracts for ODOT state and federal-aid funded projects. You will also learn of recent changes to standards or processes and common contract issues. This workshop will help prepare you to perform contract administration functions and processes that meet ODOT and/or federal mandates.

This workshop is designed for individuals who are involved in contract administration of ODOT state or federal-aid construction projects. The primary audience is ODOT personnel (e.g., contract administration specialists, project coordinators, local agency liaisons) and equivalent positions in the local agency and consultant community.

The March 13, 2025 session of this Workshop is targeted at Certified Local Public Agencies and consultants.

Critical Thinking Skills for Managing Contract Changes Workshop, ODOT/FHWA

April 14-17; 8:00 am - 4:00 pm: Salem

This 3-day workshop will provide contract administrators (and other personnel involved in construction contracts) with a realistic perspective of the challenge faced administering construction contracts. Participants will learn to understand how contract intent is expressed, how it can be misinterpreted by bidding contractors, and how to best avoid misrepresenting contract intent. The workshop will use small scenario discussions to challenge participants to work in the “gray areas” of their contract where the DOT’s intent is often not perfectly clear. The focus will be to improve confidence with contract administration decision-making and to help contract administrators understand how to deal with the delicate balance between interpreting contracts exactly as written and managing a working relationship with a contractor.

Contract Administration Core Curriculum, NHI/FHWA

Registration now open! On April 8-9 and April 10-11, 2025, ODOT will be hosting FHWA’s National Highway Institute Contract Administration Core Curriculum training. Did you know project staff working on consultant selection procurements for federal-aid projects are required to complete the DAS Contract Administration Training Certificate? If you haven’t taken this course, or haven’t taken it recently, we recommend taking this course in Workday Learning. The DAS Contract Administration Training Certificate consists of 11 self-paced modules and provides basic procurement training necessary for administering public contracts. Questions?
