In this email:
ODOT crews will close OR 217 in both directions in Tigard between OR 99W and Greenburg Road for one weekend, March 15-18, to demolish the existing Hall Boulevard overpass. Project neighbors should expect construction noise during this closure.
Here's what you need to know:
-
What: One weekend closure of OR 217 in both directions in Tigard from 9 p.m. Friday, March 15 to 5 a.m. Monday, March 18.
-
Where: Both directions of OR 217 closed between OR 99W and Greenburg Road. Several on-ramps leading up to this area will also close:
- Southbound Hall Boulevard on-ramp (currently closed).
- Southbound Scholls Ferry Road on-ramp.
- Southbound Greenburg Road on-ramp.
- Northbound 72nd Avenue on-ramp.
- Northbound OR 99W on-ramps.
-
Why: Crews will demolish the existing Hall Boulevard overpass over OR 217.
-
Detour: A signed detour will direct drivers to use U.S. 26, I-405 and I-5.
-
Noise impacts: Expect daytime and nighttime construction noise between Friday, March 15 and Monday, March 18 due to the demolition work.
We know these closures will be a disruption for travelers and neighbors and we will work hard to complete this necessary work safely and as quickly as we can. Please remind your neighbors, friends, and family in the area to check the project website and sign up for email updates in order to get the latest information. As with all construction, the closure schedule is subject to change.
During last weekend's overnight closure of OR 217, ODOT crews installed the temporary pedestrian bridge spanning OR 217 and it's almost ready for use. It will be complete before overpass demolition begins. People walking, rolling and biking will be able to cross Hall Boulevard over OR 217 using this temporary bridge while the new overpass is constructed over the next nine months. This section of Hall Boulevard, including the intersection of Hall Boulevard and Pfaffle Street, will remain closed to drivers until the new overpass is finished. When work is complete, the new overpass will include wider sidewalks and bike lanes, be more earthquake resilient, and Americans with Disabilities Act compliant.
People walking, rolling and biking will continue to have access across OR 217 on Hall Boulevard using the newly installed temporary pedestrian bridge.
What is this project?
The OR 217 Auxiliary Lanes Project will construct auxiliary lanes in both directions of OR 217 between Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and OR 99W. Auxiliary lanes are ramp-to-ramp connections on the highway that help reduce congestion by giving drivers more space and time to merge safely. This decreases conflicts, improves safety and the flow of traffic, and ultimately allows the existing lanes to work more efficiently. We expect up to 73,000 hours of travel time saved each year with these improvements.
We aren't just making improvements to the highway itself. We also need to make the area surrounding OR 217 safer for all users. In partnership with the City of Beaverton and Washington County, we are making targeted improvements to local bicycle and pedestrian routes.
