Kids celebrate a Safe Routes to School project

Virtual Public Involvement Practices in NEPA, FHWA

February 27 at 11:00 a.m. and February 28 at 10:00 a.m.: online webinar

Two upcoming webinars will feature presenters from State DOTs that incorporated virtual public involvement (VPI) in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process. The presentations will showcase projects that held public hearings, including comment periods between March 2020 and fall 2021 when in-person gatherings were restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The case studies also highlight project history, VPI approaches, outreach to underserved populations, benefits, challenges, lessons learned, and next steps. Registration is open for the two VPI webinars:

  • Feb 27 at 11:00-12:30pm PT: North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, and Multnomah County (Oregon) presenting
  • Feb 28 at 10:00-11:30am PT: Iowa, Michigan, and Kansas presenting

Contract Administration Workshop

March 20-21; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. first day, second day to noon: In Person in Salem

Local agency staff involved in contract administration on federal-aid projects are invited to attend ODOT’s annual Contract Administration Workshop. The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with the knowledge needed to administer construction contracts for ODOT state and federal-aid funded projects. Participants will also learn of recent changes to standards or processes and common contract issues. This workshop is intended to equip participants with the ability to perform contract administration functions that is consistent with Contract Administration processes and meets ODOT and/or federal mandates. Register via Workday Learning. Civil Rights for Certified Local Public Agencies, ODOT

April 9 (virtual training) and April 17 (in person in Salem)

Save the date! In coordination with ODOT Office of Equity & Civil Rights, the Certification Program is offering civil rights training for Certified LPAs. We highly recommend certified LPA staff (including project managers, inspectors, contract administration and procurement staff), consultants, ODOT Local Agency Liaisons and other staff working on delivering federal-aid projects via the Certification Program plan to attend a training session. Do you need to obtain or renew a Certified General Construction Inspector certification? Expand your inspector certifications with specialty certifications in areas such as environmental, traffic signals or asphalt? Contract Administration Training Certificate, DAS Procurement

Self-paced, virtual training

Did you know project staff working on consultant selection procurements for federal-aid projects are required to complete the DAS Contract Administration Training Certificate? If you haven’t taken this course, or haven’t taken it recently, we recommend taking this course in Workday Learning. The DAS Contract Administration Training Certificate consists of 11 self-paced modules and provides basic procurement training necessary for administering public contracts. Questions? The Federal Highway Administration has compiled a library of over 100 on-demand training videos for federal-aid local transportation projects.
