Paving Conference and Safety Symposium, Asphalt Pavement Association of Oregon (APAO)

Conference on February 14, Symposium on February 15; All day: Salem Convention Center

The Oregon Asphalt Pavement Conference is the result of a partnership between APAO and the Oregon Department of Transportation, and a commitment to continuous improvement and education. The Conference brings nationally recognized experts and cutting-edge technology to Oregon to ensure that industry and agency personnel have the tools, technologies, and best practices to design and construct the best roadway infrastructure possible.

The Oregon Safety Symposium is at the Convention Center, and will feature speakers, vendors, and education on roadway work zone safety. The Conference and the Symposium is the perfect pairing of technical and practical subjects and will also be a great networking opportunity. Contract Administration Training Certificate, DAS Procurement

Self-paced, virtual training

Did you know project staff working on consultant selection procurements for federal-aid projects are required to complete the DAS Contract Administration Training Certificate? If you haven’t taken this course, or haven’t taken it recently, we recommend taking this course in Workday Learning. The DAS Contract Administration Training Certificate consists of 11 self-paced modules and provides basic procurement training necessary for administering public contracts. Questions? Introduction to NEPA and Transportation Decision-making, NHI

Self-paced, virtual training

This Introduction to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Transportation Decision Making course is an updated version of the existing web-based training. This course describes FHWA's approach to the NEPA transportation decision-making process. That process considers impacts of transportation projects on the human and natural environment while balancing with the public's need for safe and efficient transportation. This training covers NEPA regulations, policies and guidance defined by the Council on Environmental Quality and FHWA.

This training is ideal for staff from FHWA, State Departments of Transportation, Federal and State Environmental Resource Agencies, Federal Land Management Agencies, Tribal Governments, Local Governments, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, and consultants working with various Federal-aid and Federal Lands Highway project sponsors. If you have questions about this NHI training, contact NHI, (877) 558-6873.

Integrating Transportation and Land Use, NHI

Self-paced, virtual training

The Integrating Transportation and Land Use web-based training course is designed to help practitioners plan multimodal transportation systems that supports community development goals and shape land use patterns that support transportation system performance goals. Course lessons include determining the interplay between transportation systems and land use development patterns, the processes and principles that influence integrated transportation and land use planning, and strategies for applying integrated land use and transportation principles to different types and scales of planning and decision-making processes.  Target audience includes Mid-level State DOT employees, City and County engineers and planners, MPO staff, transit operators, Federal employees (FHWA, FTA, EPA), resource agency staff, consultants, elected officials, regulatory agency staff, local zoning officials, site designers, citizen activists, developers, media representatives and business leaders.  For questions or further information on this course, contact Tameka Macon, (202) 366-1183.

Topic: Overview of NEPA as Applied to Transportation Projects

There's a lot to know and remember when working on a federal-aid project! The Federal Highway Administration has compiled a library of over 100 on-demand training videos for federal-aid local transportation projects. Periodically, the ODOT Local Agency Certification Program will recommend a topic and related resources for a quick self-guided training.
