ADA Curb Ramp Inspection Training, Written Exam and Field Exams, ODOT

Certification Training and Written Exam: self-paced online webinars

Field Exams: August 23-24; September 13-14, 27-28; October 11-12, 25-26; all day: Salem

The online ADA Curb Ramp Inspection course provides some guidance on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) facilities. This course is the prerequisite to an electronic exam and a field exam to qualify for a 2-year certification. The self-guided online certification training covers the use of ODOT ADA Curb Ramp Inspection Forms 734-0520 series, and the ODOT ADA Push Button Inspection Forms 734-5245 series. The curriculum includes the use of tools, inspection practice and measurement. It also covers how to submit the forms and where to send them.

This course is required for anyone who would like to become newly certified or recertified as an ODOT ADA Inspector or ODOT ADA Contractor. Designers may also go through the training for continuing education credits; and are not required to complete the exams unless they wish to be qualified for certification.

The final field exams for 2023 will be offered in Salem on various dates in August, September and October. If you need to complete the field exam in 2023, complete the required online training and exam and register for a field exam soon!

Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

Introduction to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law & Federal Requirements, FHWA

September 6; 11:00 am - 12:30 pm: live webinar

Join FHWA for training on how to apply for transportation funding under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (also known as IIJA). Approximately $567 billion is available across all transportation modes over five years with about $351 billion of that for highway-specific programs. Some of the training topics to be covered include funding opportunities, federal project delivery requirements, steps to take prior to application, pre-award requirements and resources to leverage throughout the Federal project and grant application processes. Overview of Changes to the Davis-Bacon and Related Act Provisions, US Department of Labor

September 13 or 14; 10:00 am - 12:00 pm: live webinar

On August 8, 2023, US Department of Labor posted revised rules for the administration and enforcement of Davis-Bacon labor standards that apply to federal and federally assisted construction projects. The revised rules will become effective in early October. These seminars will discuss the provisions of the revised rule. OR38 Rockfall Road Damage

ER Program Update, FHWA/ODOT

September 26; 9:00 am - 11:30 am, MS Teams Meeting

This training will cover the basics of the FHWA ER program including a program overview, how to complete the paperwork, what qualifies as a reimbursable damage site, and provides newly developed guidance on purchasing for permanent repair projects. The first hour will be general training, the second hour will be more ODOT-project specific. Staff from ODOT’s Emergency Operations and Project Delivery programs will present. Questions? Contract Administration Core Curriculum Training, FHWA

October 24-25 or October 26-27; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm: Oregon City (Clackamas Community College)

ODOT is pleased to host National Highway Institute’s FHWA Contract Administration Core Curriculum course for ODOT and local agencies. The purpose of this course is to explain basic Federal-aid requirements; promote awareness of FHWA policy; facilitate familiarity with the Contract Administration Core Curriculum (CACC) manual; and allow supervised practice activities using the manual to find information. By engaging in a variety of in-class exercises and case studies, participants will become familiar with the CACC Manual and learn how to use it as a daily resource.

This course is designed for Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Division Office personnel and state/local government agency personnel who must read, interpret, and apply Federal regulations and guidance that affect the administration of Federal-aid contracts.

2023 Prevailing Wage Seminar with Davis-Bacon Act Q&A, US Department of Labor

October 31 (changed from September 13); 10:30 am - 12:30 pm: live webinar

The Wage and Hour Division Prevailing Wage Seminars are compliance trainings designed for regional stakeholders (e.g., unions, private contractors, state agencies, federal agencies, workers). In these seminars, participants will learn about the Davis-Bacon Act and McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act, related Executive Orders, the process of obtaining wage determinations and adding classifications, compliance assistance and enforcement processes and the process for appealing wage rates, coverage, and compliance determinations.

Note: Date changed to October 31 to allow for incorporation of information related to the newly revised rules relating to Davis-Bacon administration and enforcement that will become effective in October.

Writing a Statement of Work, DAS Procurement

In this course, you will use a statement of work writing guide to create a statement of work. This class will help you determine likely weak points, questions to ask, and how to improve your statement of work. The class will also provide valuable writing tips, pointers on the use of terms such as shall-must-may-will, and steps in writing a statement of work.

Although this course is not transportation-specific, it is recommended for project staff who are involved in consultant selection for federal-aid projects.

Climate Change Series, National Highway Institute

National Highway Institute (NHI) offers a series of free, self-paced web-based courses addressing climate change and resiliency in engineering, design, and project development of highway projects.

  • Understanding Past, Current and Future Climate Change (FHWA-NHI-142081, 2 HOURS, free). This course will provide participants an introduction to: future projections of various climate variables including precipitation, temperature, and sea levels; climate science principles; and an overview of potential impacts of these changes on transportation facilities.
  • Introduction to Temperature and Precipitation Projections (FHWA-NHI-142082, 1 HOUR, free).This course shows participants how to develop projections tailored to transportation project planning and design and discusses associated limitations and uncertainties.
  • Systems Level Vulnerability Assessments (FHWA-NHI-142083, 2 HOURS, free). This course introduces participants to vulnerability concepts to understand extreme weather impacts on roadway infrastructure. Participants will learn the purpose of systems level vulnerability assessments, the various techniques used to conduct them, and how to use their results.
  • Adaptation Analysis for Project Decision Making (FHWA-NHI-142084, 2 HOURS, free). This course introduces participants to conducting facility-level adaptation assessments for project development processes. Learners will be introduced to risk-based approaches to develop and evaluate adaptation options and select an adaptation strategy.

Did you know project staff working on consultant selection procurements for federal-aid projects are required to complete the DAS Contract Administration Training Certificate? If you haven’t taken this course, or haven’t taken it recently, we recommend taking this course in Workday Learning. The DAS Contract Administration Training Certificate consists of 11 self-paced modules and provides basic procurement training necessary for administering public contracts. Questions?
