In this email:
All lanes on northbound OR 217 as well as the 72nd Avenue on-ramp reopened this morning on schedule! Thank you for your patience with these closures over the last week and a half. We know that closing ramps and highway lanes had a big impact on traffic throughout the area.
These closures were critical in providing a safe work zone for crews while they built an entirely new foundation to support traffic when the new auxiliary lane opens. Each section of work gets us one step closer to having a safer and more efficient highway.
Progress photos
From top to bottom: Crews excavated several layers of pavement on the highway shoulder in order to rebuild a new, strong foundation for the auxiliary lane; We built back up the foundation prior to paving; Paving underway for the future auxiliary lane.
With another major closure complete, we can move on to building new foundations for auxiliary lanes and safety shoulders in other sections of the project. This busy summer season will help keep the project moving forward and on schedule.
Starting at 9 p.m. Sunday night, Aug. 6. crews will close the southbound OR 99W on-ramp to northbound OR 217 for up to seven days. The ramp will be closed around-the-clock and will reopen by 5 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. Please note the change in dates since our last update.
This closure is needed for crews to excavate the current shoulder and rebuild new foundations for the future auxiliary lane and safety shoulder.
-
Detour: Use the OR 99W on-ramp to head south on OR 217. Exit at 72nd Avenue (exit 7) and then use the 72nd Avenue on-ramp to head north on OR 217.
During this time, there may be additional, periodic nighttime-only traffic impacts from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. some nights:
-
The northbound OR 99W loop ramp to northbound OR 217. Drivers can use the same detour described above.
-
Northbound OR 217 reduced to one lane from 72nd Avenue to OR 99W.
Check tripcheck.com before you travel for up-to-date traffic impacts and to help plan your route.
OR 99W southbound on-ramp to OR 217 north closed Aug. 6-12.
Heads up! These impacts are expected to begin in the near future. We will provide more details as they become available.
- Southbound OR 217 reduced to one lane near the Greenburg Road interchange for one weekend later this summer. The southbound on-ramp from Scholls Ferry Road and the southbound off-ramp to Greenburg Road will also close during this time. This closure will allow crews to reinforce the highway shoulder to support the future auxiliary lane.
- Full closure of OR 217 in one direction at a time near the Hall Boulevard interchange for multiple nights later this summer. The closures will be in place between 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. and will fully reopen for daytime traffic. These closures will allow crews to install steel support beams necessary for the widening work on the Hall Boulevard overpass.
Stay tuned to these email updates for additional closures coming up. We appreciate everyone's patience as we continue work throughout the project area during this busy summer construction season.
The OR 217 Auxiliary Lanes Project will construct auxiliary lanes in both directions of OR 217 between Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and OR 99W. Auxiliary lanes are ramp-to-ramp connections on the highway that help reduce congestion by giving drivers more space and time to merge safely. This decreases conflicts, improves safety and the flow of traffic, and ultimately allows the existing lanes to work more efficiently. We expect up to 73,000 hours of travel time saved each year with these improvements.
We aren't just making improvements to the highway itself. We also need to make the area surrounding OR 217 safer for all users. In partnership with the City of Beaverton and Washington County, we are making targeted improvements to local bicycle and pedestrian routes.
