Starting the morning of Monday, April 24, crews will close one of the two westbound lanes on the Hall Boulevard overpass between Scholls Ferry Road (near Washington Square) and Cascade Avenue. This lane closure will continue over the course of 2023 as crews widen the overpass to build a new sidewalk on the north side of the bridge and add bike lanes in both directions. Thanks to our funding partners at the City of Beaverton and Washington County, we're filling in a missing piece of the bike and pedestrian network and making it easier and safer for everyone to get around.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Starting the morning of Monday, April 24, one of the two westbound lanes on the Hall Boulevard overpass will close for several months to safely accommodate the bridge widening work. The lane will reopen prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.
- Crews will keep traffic moving in both directions on Hall Boulevard during the work.
- The lane closure will span from Scholls Ferry Road to Cascade Avenue. Exact boundaries may change as the work progresses.
- We will rebuild the existing section of sidewalk along the north side of Hall Boulevard, including the driveways into the Progress Plaza parking lot. At least one driveway will remain open throughout construction for accessing the plaza.
- Project neighbors may hear pile driving, or heavy-duty hammering, for several weeks as crews drive steel support columns into the ground. All pile driving work will take place during daytime hours (8 a.m. and 8 p.m.). If you have noise concerns, please call our 24/7 noise hotline at (503) 412-2349.
Given the possibility of some congestion in the area, please plan ahead. Check tripcheck.com before you leave for up-to-date traffic impacts.
As with all construction, the closure schedule is subject to change.
Note: Work on this overpass will take place throughout 2023. Expect additional traffic impacts later this year, including a two-month closure of the Hall Boulevard southbound on-ramp to OR 217. We will provide more details as work continues.
The single lane closure will extend from approximately Scholls Ferry Road to Cascade Avenue.
New sidewalk and bike lanes on the overpass will increase safety for all modes of travel
When the work is done, the Hall Boulevard overpass in Beaverton will be 19 feet wider. This extra width allows space for a new sidewalk and bike lane on the north side of the overpass and a new bike lane on the south side of the overpass. Currently, there are no marked bike lanes on this overpass and there is a sidewalk on just one side. The new sidewalk and bike lanes will provide a much-needed connection for people bicycling, walking and rolling between Scholls Ferry Road and Cascade Avenue and allow all travelers more space to cross the overpass safely.
For questions or concerns about the work, including access issues during active construction, call 503-265-8704 or email hwy217@odot.oregon.gov.
The future Hall Boulevard overpass in Beaverton will include sidewalks and bike lanes in both directions.
Crews are working to build the southbound frontage road between Allen Boulevard and Denney Road and widen some of the ramps in the area. This work requires closing the southbound Denney Road off-ramp and on-ramp for five months.
We expect these closures to start in the next several weeks. We will send out more details about these closures, including detour routes, in advance. Stay tuned for more information!
We are upgrading sidewalk curb ramps along Hall Boulevard as part of a separate ODOT project. There may be lane closures near work areas to the east of Scholls Ferry Road.
Willamette Water Supply is performing utility work and you may notice their crews working in the area around Scholls Ferry Road and Hall Boulevard. Please be advised that this work could cause temporary traffic disruptions and lane closures.
We will continue to coordinate with other projects in order to minimize disruptions.
ODOT wants your comments on projects planned for 2024-2027 in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, also known as the STIP, that lays out where we will invest federal and state money in the transportation system - everything from roads and bridges to public transportation to bike paths and sidewalks.
Join us to learn more and share comments before April 28 at ODOT’s website, online open house, or an in-person open house. OR 217 Auxiliary Lanes project staff will be at the April 8th open house in Beaverton.

The OR 217 Auxiliary Lanes Project will construct auxiliary lanes in both directions of OR 217 between Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and OR 99W. Auxiliary lanes are ramp-to-ramp connections on the highway that help reduce congestion by giving drivers more space and time to merge safely. This decreases conflicts, improves safety and the flow of traffic, and ultimately allows the existing lanes to work more efficiently. We expect up to 73,000 hours of travel time saved each year with these improvements.
We aren't just making improvements to the highway itself. We also need to make the area surrounding OR 217 safer for all users. In partnership with the City of Beaverton and Washington County, we are making targeted improvements to local bicycle and pedestrian routes.
