There will be rolling slowdowns on OR 217 the night of Monday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 18 to allow utility crews to remove and relocate overhead cables that span across the highway near the Hall Boulevard overpass in Beaverton. Relocating the cables will make room for the crane needed to widen the overpass. We expect up to four slowdowns on both nights between 11:59 p.m. and 5 a.m.
What to expect during rolling slowdowns:
- Traffic control vehicles will slow down traffic across all lanes of the highway in both directions.
- Southbound rolling slowdowns begin at the U.S. 26 and OR 217 interchange. Traffic will be held for up to 15 minutes at all southbound on-ramps between U.S. 26 and Hall Boulevard in Beaverton.
- Northbound rolling slowdowns begin at the I-5 and OR 217 interchange. Traffic will be held for up to 15 minutes at all northbound on-ramps between I-5 and Hall Boulevard in Beaverton.
- Traffic on OR 217 should expect approximately 15-minute delays.
We're glad to announce that work to widen the Hall Boulevard overpass in Beaverton is expected to start within the next month. Thanks to our funding partners at the City of Beaverton and Washington County, we're filling in a missing piece of the bike and pedestrian network and making it easier and safer for everyone to get around.
We will add a new sidewalk and bike lane on the north side of the overpass as well as a new bike lane on the south side. Much of the work will happen over the course of 2023 and will have some traffic impacts along the way, including a longer-term closure of the right, westbound lane on Hall Boulevard between Scholls Ferry Road and Cascade Avenue. There will also be a two month closure of the Hall Boulevard southbound on-ramp onto OR 217.
We will send out more details about these closures in advance.
Future configuration of the Hall Boulevard overpass in Beaverton that includes sidewalks and bike lanes in both directions.
Crews are working to build the southbound frontage road between Allen Boulevard and Denney Road. They will also widen the southbound Allen Boulevard off-ramp and the Denney Road on-ramp. Because of the narrow space between the highway lanes and the railroad tracks, this work requires closing the southbound Denney Road off-ramp and on-ramp for five months.
We will send out more details about these closures and detour routes in advance. Stay tuned for more information!
The OR 217 Auxiliary Lanes Project will construct auxiliary lanes in both directions of OR 217 between Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and OR 99W. Auxiliary lanes are ramp-to-ramp connections on the highway that help reduce congestion by giving drivers more space and time to merge safely. This decreases conflicts, improves safety and the flow of traffic, and ultimately allows the existing lanes to work more efficiently. We expect up to 73,000 hours of travel time saved each year with these improvements.
We aren't just making improvements to the highway itself. We also need to make the area surrounding OR 217 safer for all users. In partnership with the City of Beaverton and Washington County, we are making targeted improvements to local bicycle and pedestrian routes.
