CUG Consultant Contracting Series: Breakdown of Costs and Billing Rate Tips, ODOT

The CUG Consultant Contracting training series continues on January 19, 2023. ODOT Procurement Office staff will be joining us to provide tips and tricks on billing rates and an overview if using the ODOT Breakdown of Costs template. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from ODOT's experts! Registration is now open.

The remainder of the CUG Consultant Contracting Series trainings will occur on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 11am-12pm. Tentative topics for the remaining sessions are listed below.

CASE Webtool Virtual Workshop, FHWA

This FHWA workshop will show how to use the alternative contracting method analysis tools in the CASE Webtool. The focus will be on evaluating short-term alternative contracting methods, including design-bid-build, Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build and Construction Manager/General Contractor, to determine which might be best for a project’s specific situation and goals. Recognizing that it takes collaboration across disciplines to achieve a world-class transportation system, Associated General Contractors (AGC) Oregon Chapter and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) are jointly hosting an annual meeting for staff involved in transportation project delivery. This event will include updates from the Oregon Transportation Commission, ODOT and AGC leadership as well as the Agency’s financial forecast and project delivery outlook. This course addresses the basics of Oregon public procurement.  By the end of this course participants will understand the underlying philosophy, principles, rules, and processes that govern Oregon public procurement by non-procurement professionals.

This learning event is designed to:

  • Provide all public non-procurement professionals (state and local) instruction in conducting procurements that are between $10,000 - $150,000 and greater.
  • Provide a foundational overview for non-procurement professionals who are new to Oregon public procurement.

This course addresses the basics of Oregon public procurement. Participants will actively engage in presentations, conduct exercises, and complete homework assignments consisting of online events and research.  By the end of this course participants will understand the underlying philosophy, principles, rules, and processes that govern Oregon public procurement.

This learning event is designed to:

  • Provide all public procurement professionals (state and local) instruction in conducting procurements that are between $10,000 - $150,000 and greater.
  • Provide a foundational overview for anyone who is new to Oregon public procurement.

Civil Rights and Labor Compliance Training, ODOT Office of Civil Rights

Various Dates and Times: Format TBD

Join ODOT’s Office of Civil Rights for Civil Rights and Labor Compliance Training. All sessions will provide insight into both ODOT/FHWA Office of Civil Rights Programs, ODOT/BOLI Labor Compliance Programs, TERO, OJT/Apprenticeships, DocExpress and more. From daily record keeping to monthly reporting; from notice to proceed to final note; we will talk about what needs to be done and why.

Who should attend? 

Prime and sub-contractors, local agency staff, consultants and ODOT personnel that interact with or are interested in learning more about the above programs are welcome to join any of these events

Writing a Statement of Work, DAS Procurement Services

Various Dates and Times: Online virtual webinar

In this course, you will use a statement of work writing guide to create a statement of work. This class will help you determine likely weak points, questions to ask, and how to improve your statement of work. The class will also provide valuable writing tips, pointers on the use of terms such as shall-must-may-will, and steps in writing a statement of work.

Although this course is not transportation-specific, it is required training for procurement and  project staff who are involved in consultant selection for federal-aid projects.

Contract Administration Training Certificate, DAS Procurement Services

Self-Paced Online Training

Did you know project staff working on consultant selection procurements for federal-aid projects are required to complete the DAS Contract Administration Training Certificate? If you haven’t taken this course, or haven’t taken it recently, we recommend taking this course in Workday Learning. The DAS Contract Administration Training Certificate consists of 11 self-paced modules and provides basic procurement training necessary for administering public contracts. Questions? The Federal Highway Administration has compiled a library of over 100 on-demand training videos for federal-aid local transportation projects.
