This closure allows us to build a new frontage road that will improve congestion and safety.
Crews have been hard at work setting the stage for the new southbound frontage road that will replace the Allen Boulevard on-ramp and Denney Road off-ramp. The upcoming ramp closures will allow them to finish the frontage road and ramp widening work and make these two interchanges safer.
Here’s what you need to know:
-
Starting the night of Sunday, Apr. 30, the OR 217 southbound Denney Road off-ramp and on-ramp will close for approximately five months.
-
Detour for the Denney Road southbound off-ramp: continue south to the Hall Boulevard off-ramp (exit 4A) and use the Scholls Ferry Road on-ramp to get onto northbound OR 217 and return to Denney Road.
-
Detour for the Denney Road southbound on-ramp: use the Denney Road on-ramp to head north, exit at Allen Boulevard (exit 2B) and then take the Allen Boulevard on-ramp to go south on OR 217.
- After the 5-month ramp closure period, the Denney Road southbound off-ramp from OR 217 will be part of the new frontage road between Allen Boulevard and Denney Road. It will no longer serve as an off-ramp from the highway. At that time, the Denney Road southbound on-ramp will reopen and the new frontage road will open.
Plan ahead and give yourself extra travel time on the highway and surrounding area, especially as travelers become accustomed to the detour routes. Check tripcheck.com before you leave for up-to-date traffic impacts.
As with all construction, the closure schedule is subject to change.
We know this will be a disruption for travelers and we are working hard to complete this necessary work as safely and quickly as we can. We appreciate your patience!
Detour routes for the southbound Denney Road ramp closures.
The interchanges at Allen Boulevard and Denney Road are some of the worst congestion locations on OR 217. The two interchanges are very closely spaced, leading to merging conflicts and crashes.
By building a new frontage road to replace the southbound Allen Boulevard on-ramp and Denney Road off-ramp, drivers will be able to travel more safely between these two interchanges and bypass OR 217 entirely. The 5-month ramp closures culminate in opening the new frontage road.

The OR 217 Auxiliary Lanes Project will construct auxiliary lanes in both directions of OR 217 between Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and OR 99W. Auxiliary lanes are ramp-to-ramp connections on the highway that help reduce congestion by giving drivers more space and time to merge safely. This decreases conflicts, improves safety and the flow of traffic, and ultimately allows the existing lanes to work more efficiently. We expect up to 73,000 hours of travel time saved each year with these improvements.
We aren't just making improvements to the highway itself. We also need to make the area surrounding OR 217 safer for all users. In partnership with the City of Beaverton and Washington County, we are making targeted improvements to local bicycle and pedestrian routes.
