Trucking Advisory Update: Most coast highways open; expect delays into Wednesday
OREGON COAST – Most Oregon Coast highways are open or partially open after removal of windblown trees from Tuesday’s storm. However, drivers should expect delays and possible closures Tuesday night and into Wednesday.
Here are updates:
*ODOT crews have been successful in reopening U.S. 20 (Corvallis-Newport Highway) after downed trees and power lines created multiple blockages between Newport and 20 miles east. All lanes are now open.
*ODOT crews also have cleared a single lane of travel on Oregon 34 (Alsea Highway) between mile points 5 and 16. The highway is subject to complete closures Tuesday night, and drivers should be alert to message boards near Waldport and Philomath.
*ODOT crews have cleared downed trees from U.S. 101 two miles south of Neskowin, near the Tillamook-Lincoln County line, and all lanes are reported open.
*Oregon 229 (Siletz Highway) likely will remain closed to through traffic between mile points 5 and 20 due to multiple downed trees.
ODOT has deployed crews from Tillamook, McMinnville, Salem and other lesser hit areas to help clear Lincoln County highways. ODOT crews will be staffed overnight, sanding and applying deicer to highways.
However, drivers should be prepared for extreme winter conditions overnight and Wednesday as moisture on the roads freezes. Drivers may want to plan for delayed travel Wednesday morning.
