FAST ACT Guardrail Safety Training, FHWA

October 4-5 and 6; full day: Redmond, OR

FHWA’s FAST Act Guardrail Safety Training provides State DOTs’ personnel and contractors with the appropriate information needed to ensure optimal barrier installations. ODOT is hosting a 2-day course covering the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of guardrail systems, as well as a 1-day course for designers on the selection, design, and layout parameters necessary to result in an optimal barrier installation. For questions regarding FAST Act training that will take place in Redmond, please contact Justin Brock.

Smoky Pedestrians

Certified LPA NPDES 1200-CA Permit Update Training, ODOT

October 11; 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm: hybrid session (ODOT T-Building, 355 Capitol St. NE, Salem or virtual in MS Teams)

This training will cover how ODOT is rolling out changes to the 1200-CA permit in both the design and construction phases. This session is geared toward certified Local Public Agency staff, including designers, project managers and inspectors, but all are welcome to attend. The training will be held in a hybrid format, with an in-person option in Salem and a virtual option using MS Teams. View the outline for the presentation and register online. Once you have registered, you will receive an email with a calendar invite attached. Add the calendar invite to your calendar and use the meeting link in the invite if you plan to attend virtually. ADA curb ramp install in Independence

ADA Curb Ramp Inspection Training, ODOT

October 12, 13, 19 and 20; Full day: Combination on-line and in-person

ALERT! The ADA Curb Ramp Training and online exam will not be available in December in order to make updates for to the content for 2023.  If you need to recertify or certify for the first time before February 2023, please enroll in the training and register for a field exam as soon as possible. The remaining field exam dates offered for 2022 are October 12, 13, 19, and 20. The enrollment is capped at 15 people, so don’t wait to register. You must first go through Steps 1 and 2 below before you are able to enroll in the field exam.

Below is the 3 step process for ADA Certification.

2022 ADA Curb Ramp Inspection Certification includes an online written exam and in-person field exam to receive a 2-year certification. Below is the order of progression and Workday enrollment links for certification:    

Step 1 – ODOT - SPDB - Construction - ADA Curb Ramp Training for Certification (2022 Update)   

Step 2 – ODOT - SPDB - Construction - ADA Curb Ramp Certification Exam (2022 Update) (Step 1 is a pre-requisite to Step 2, the online written exam.)    

Step 3 – ODOT - SPDB - Construction - ADA Curb Ramp Inspection Certification - Field Work Exam (Steps 1 & 2 are pre-requisites to Step 3, the in-person field exam (must complete online written exam within 6 weeks of Field Exam.)

Chip Seal Forum, ODOT

October 13; 8:00 am - 5:00 pm: hybrid session (In person at Salem Materials Lab and virtual)

The purpose of this forum is to facilitate discussion and collaboration from across the state on current chip seal issues and concerns. This forum will give participants a platform to share ideas and solutions to common and not-so-common problems that can arise during a chip seal project. Last year was our first forum and a number of different agencies and ODOT Maintenance staff were able to share some of the struggles and successes that they experienced. Consultant Negotiations

Contract Administration Core Curriculum, FHWA

October 25-26 and October 27-28; all day: ODOT District 5 Office at 2080 Laura Street, Springfield

**Note: The first session is currently full and limited seats remain in the second session. Sign up soon if you would like to participate in this training opportunity.**

This training will take place in Springfield at the ODOT District 5 office (2080 Laura St.). Session 1 is October 25-26 and Session 2 is October 27-28. The information covered at both sessions will be identical, so you only need to register for one of the sessions.

The purpose of this course is to explain basic Federal-aid requirements; promote awareness of FHWA policy; facilitate familiarity with the CACC manual; and allow supervised practice activities using the manual to find information. By engaging in a variety of in-class exercises and case studies, participants will become familiar with the CACC Manual and learn how to best use it as a daily resource.

ER Program Training, Joint FHWA/ODOT

October 24; 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm: Online in MS Teams

ODOT Emergency operations and FHWA will once again be offering the ER program training course. This course is designed for anyone involved in the ER process, and covers the overall process, site eligibility, paperwork and timeframes. For this training we will hear from FHWA ER Program Manager Satvinder Sandhu, who will be talking about the changes FHWA has made to the program and how that affects reimbursement rates and timelines. SAVE THE DATES! CUG Consultant Contracting Series: Consultant Selection & Contract Administration Overview, ODOT

Overview training: November 22, 2022, 9am-11:30am, virtual via MS Teams

One-hour training series: Third Thursday of each month, 11am-12pm, virtual via MS Teams

By popular demand, the 2022 CUG Winter Training Series will cover Consultant Selection & Contract Administration.

On November 22, 2022, we will provide an overview training targeted primarily at newer staff or staff who need a refresher on consultant selection and contract administration on federal-aid projects. In the overview session, we will cover where to find and how to use resources and guidance related to consultant selection.

The overview session will be complemented by a series of one-hour training sessions on the third Thursday of each month from 11am – 12pm. The one-hour sessions will start on December 15, 2022 and run each month through May 2023. Each session will cover a topic related to consultant selection and contract administration.

The December 15, 2022 training will cover How to Use the Certified Local Public Agency Statement of Work library. Members of the CUG Statement of Work work group, including Mark Foster (Marion County) and Bob Knorr (Clackamas County) will be on hand to share their experiences and facilitate peer exchanges of strategies and best practices. The remaining topics will be announced soon.
