Road Weather Spotlight: Road Weather Data Sources & Applications, FHWA

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Road Weather Management Program (RWMP) presents the Road Weather Spotlight, a monthly webinar series discussing the challenges of various road weather events, lessons learned, and practical solutions. The series runs the first Wednesday of each month and includes a facilitated panelist discussion with an open Q&A for attendees. FAST ACT Guardrail Safety Training, FHWA
October 4-5 and 6; Full days: Redmond, OR
FHWA’s FAST Act Guardrail Safety Training provides State DOTs’ personnel and contractors with the appropriate information needed to ensure optimal barrier installations. ODOT is hosting a 2-day course covering the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of guardrail systems, as well as a 1-day course for designers on the selection, design, and layout parameters necessary to result in an optimal barrier installation. Contract Administration Core Curriculum Training, FHWA
October 25-26 and 27-28; all day: ODOT District 5 office at 2080 Laura Street, Springfield OR

Registration for the October 2022 sessions of the FHWA Contract Administration Core Curriculum is now open and seats are filling fast! This training will take place in Springfield at the ODOT District 5 office (2080 Laura St.). Session 1 is October 25-26 and Session 2 is October 27-28. The information covered at both sessions will be identical, so you only need to register for one of the sessions.
The purpose of this course is to explain basic Federal-aid requirements; promote awareness of FHWA policy; facilitate familiarity with the newly reorganized, revised, and expanded CACC manual; and allow supervised practice activities using the manual to find information. By engaging in a variety of in-class exercises and case studies, participants will become familiar with the CACC Manual and learn how to best use it as a daily resource.

Highway Design Manual 2023
ODOT’s Highway Design Manual 2023 is published and available on ODOT’s website. The 2023 Highway Design Manual should be used for all projects with PS&E milestones on or after January 1, 2023. Projects that reach PS&E prior to January 1, 2023 may use the 2012 or 2023 Highway Design Manual. Questions or comments on the revised manual? Email Will Woods.

Specifications: Project Special Provisions Process, ODOT Project Controls Office

This 30-minute webinar covers how ODOT produces Special Provisions for ODOT projects, including how to determine which special provisions are needed, how to use boilerplate special provisions, how to write and use custom language special provision, and project spec writer roles and responsibilities. While the training is ODOT focused, the training will help Certified LPA staff understand how ODOT develops specifications and why the Certification Program Office provides the types of feedback it does on Certified LPA specifications.
