Construction highlights as of Feb. 17, 2022
Construction crews have been working on OR 217 and surrounding streets for the last two months. The majority of the work to date has focused on setting up work zones, implementing erosion control measures, and setting the stage for more involved construction work. In the coming weeks, crews will concentrate on building sound walls at the south end of the project and upgrading the safety railing on the SW Allen Boulevard overpass and ramps. Keep reading for more information about the longer-term impacts in the SW Allen Boulevard area that begin Sunday, Feb. 20.
Traffic pattern changes and turning restrictions on SW Allen Boulevard will be implemented starting Sunday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 25, 2022. All of these impacts are expected to continue through April 2022. Drivers impacted by these restrictions may consider using the neighboring interchanges to the north at Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway or the south at SW Denney Road.
Traffic pattern changes and turning restrictions
-
Signal change: All traffic signals will be temporarily removed at the intersection of SW Allen Boulevard and the OR 217 southbound on- and off-ramps to allow crews to replace the railings that support the signals. A barrier will be put in place separating eastbound and westbound traffic on the SW Allen Boulevard overpass.
-
Southbound OR 217 off-ramp to SW Allen Boulevard: Only right turns on SW Allen Boulevard from the off-ramp will be permitted. Drivers will not be able to turn left onto SW Allen Boulevard or continue straight through the intersection to get onto the southbound on-ramp.
-
SW Allen Boulevard to southbound OR 217: No left turns onto the southbound on-ramp will be permitted for traffic heading west on SW Allen Boulevard. Traffic heading east on SW Allen Boulevard will not be affected by turning restrictions.
-
Overpass lane closure: Around-the-clock closure of the westbound right lane on the SW Allen Boulevard overpass.
-
Sidewalks: Sidewalks will be maintained on the north side of SW Allen Boulevard but will be shifted slightly around the work zone. A temporary rapid flashing beacon will be installed at the southbound off-ramp crosswalk to help pedestrians cross safely in the absence of the traffic signals.
-
People on bikes: Due to shoulder closures on the Allen Boulevard overpass, people bicycling will use the travel lane.
Construction activities and schedules are subject to change due to weather or other factors.
Turning restrictions at the southbound ramps on SW Allen Boulevard.
- Around-the-clock closure of the existing southbound auxiliary lane between SW Hall Boulevard and SW Scholls Ferry Road through May 2022. The on- and off-ramps will remain open.
- Ongoing sound wall construction in Tigard near SW Hall Boulevard and SW Pfaffle Street east of OR 217 through spring 2022. Residents should expect to see and hear daytime sound wall construction activities as well as more trucks and construction equipment on local streets nearby.
- Intermittent shoulder closures on the highway and ramps as well as local roads and overpasses near OR 217 throughout the project area.
Safety reminders!
|
During construction, we will remove some ramp meters and highway speed advisory signs. Please remember to slow down in work zones and watch for construction crews and merging traffic.
There is increased speed enforcement throughout the corridor for crew and public safety.
