Historic Highway News
Crew members continue to excavate and rock blast at the future Mitchell Point Tunnel. In the above photo, three crew members are working in the tunnel at the east entrance.
Mtichell Point Tunnel taking shape
Crews are forming the Mitchell Point Tunnel. Rock blasting and excavation will continue over the winter.
As of Dec. 2, the tunnel is about 70 feet deep from the west tunnel entrance and about 100 feet deep from the east tunnel entrance. With a total tunnel length of 655-feet, that means we have excavated 25 percent of the total length!
Construction is expected to continue through mid-2023.
Visit the project website and TripCheck.com for updates, including rolling slowdown schedules to accommodate rock blasting as the project continues.
