Reading to lead cleanup efforts

You’ve probably heard that ODOT will take a lead role, as part of the Oregon Debris Management Task Force, in ash and debris removal from last month’s historic wildfires. Region 3 Manager Frank Reading will lead up the effort as Area Commander and Joe Squire, State Construction and Materials Engineer in Delivery and Operations, will serve as his Deputy Area Commander. We’ll soon see efforts stepping up in all eight counties affected by wildfires – Clackamas, Douglas, Jackson, Klamath, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, and Marion counties. Watch for more information as we manage this new work.

The way you get agency news is changing. Starting Friday, Oct. 30, you’ll see a new link to internal news. The link takes you to the ODOT News Hub, a collection of SharePoint Online websites. You’ll be greeted by announcements, newsletters, Inside ODOT features and more displayed in a fresh new way. Stay tuned!

REMINDER: Fall back one hour this weekend

Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, November 1, at 2 a.m. It’s not the time change that bothers us (some say we’re getting an extra hour this time of year – doesn’t matter!); it’s the impact on circadian rhythm, or the physical, mental and behavioral changes that follow our typical 24-hour cycle. Plan ahead and be safe!

Charitable Fund Drive helps us all

Did you get a chance to make your annual donation to the Charitable Fund Drive? If so, you know how good it feels to know you are helping others out. A group in the Director’s Office did a “pun-raiser” for CFD and the winning transportation-related pun is shown above (Congrats, Jeff Towers!). Thanks to all who are able to dig deep and give. The CFD runs through Nov. 26; see the full list of available charities in the CFD 2020 Giving Guide.

Non-Trivial Transportation Trivia

Today’s trivia question is about the time change this weekend. According to DrowsyDriving.org what is the best way to fend off drowsy driving?

  1. Get a good night’s sleep. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of sleep.
  2. Take a companion on long trips.
  3. Schedule regular stops.
  4. Drink coffee or a caffeinated beverage.
