Oregon, Germany sign driver license agreement

Reciprocity deal formalizes current practice between Oregon and Germany

Oregon and the Federal Republic of Germany signed an agreement Jan. 17 that continues the practice of waiving drive tests between this state and Germany.
Applicants in Oregon must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid driver license issued by Germany, prove residency in Oregon and are otherwise eligible for a Class C, non-commercial driver license. Likewise, Germany will waive its drive test for Oregon driver license holders who are at least 18 years old and are applying for non-commercial driver licenses in Germany. Both Oregon and Germany have additional requirements for applicants younger than 18.
Oregon and Germany have had an informal reciprocity agreement for many years. The Jan. 17 agreement is the second formal driver license reciprocity deal that Oregon has signed with a foreign country. The state signed its first such formal agreement with the Republic of Korea on Dec. 2, 2011.
