Expect delays on I-5 south Friday and Saturday nights

Rolling slowdowns lasting 20 minutes will delay traffic along southbound Interstate 5 Friday and Saturday nights, Nov. 2 and Nov. 3, while crews install sign bridges.

Lane closures will begin Friday night at 9 p.m. with the rolling slowdown beginning around midnight near Southwest Hood Avenue with all traffic open again by 6 a.m. The schedule will repeat on Saturday night. The schedule for both nights is as follows:

  • 9 pm: Single lane closure begins
  • 11 pm: Second lane closure begins, as well as ramp closures of the 217 on-ramp and the Nyberg on-ramp. During this time, the construction team will set up a crane and station flaggers at on-ramps and prepare for rolling slowdowns
  • 12 am - 1 am: First rolling slowdown begins
  • 2 am - 4 am: Second rolling slowdown begins

On-ramps to southbound I-5 will be closed along the route as the rolling slowdown moves past. The times of the ramp closures will vary depending on when the rolling slowdown has passed and if multiple rolling slowdowns are needed.

The schedule will repeat Monday and Tuesday night if additional time is needed to complete the work. If additional nights are needed, all traffic will open by 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

ODOT expects the rolling slowdowns to add up to 40 minutes to your trip.

The slowdowns will give crews a sufficient work window to raise and install sign bridges along I-5 between Nyberg Street and the I-205 interchange. The new sign structures are part of the ongoing construction on I-5 between OR 99W and I-205.  For project information, please visit tinyurl.com/i5ODOTProject.
