Bridge rail cutting overnights this week in Florence

Siuslaw Bridge Project

Cathodic Protection Construction Update

November 6, 2017

Siuslaw River Bridge, Florence, Oregon

For the week of November 6, 2017

Crews are removing bridge rail on the Siuslaw Bridge Monday night through Thursday morning this week on the northeast side of the bridge. Work will begin at 8 p.m. each night going on into the next morning. This is a noisy process that has to be done at night because a lane closure is needed to do the work. Daytime lanes closures are not allowed past 11 a.m.

There will be single lane closures for bridge rail saw cutting and bridge rail removal work. Delays may be up to 20 minutes, but will normally be five minutes or less.

    Background

The Siuslaw River Bridge Cathodic Protection Project is repairing damaged concrete, replacing bridge railings, and constructing sidewalk features at the bridge ends. A major portion of the project is to install cathodic protection that includes a zinc surface coating to protect the structure from corrosion. Sandblasting the bridge and spraying the zinc coating are noisy operations that must be done separately, in containment structures. The project is scheduled to be completed in March 2019.  More information on the project is available at http://www.Siuslawbridge.com.
